Winnifred (Mona) Irene Mackay

December 29, 2010

Peacefully at home, with all five children by her side on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010, at the age of 88. Mona is survived and lovingly remembered forever by her five children, Douglas (Judy), Gord (Linda), Donna Mackay Teahen (Bob), Kathryn Bowler (Neil) and Karen Mackay Ross (Brian). She will be deeply missed by all eleven grandchildren; Brandon, Brodie; Deanna Langhorst (Ed), William (Danielle), Robb; Stephanie Ritland (Todd), Jamie Willis (Shannon); Ryan and Brett Savenkoff, Victoria Marek; Bradley Ross (Samantha); great-grandchildren Cohen; Aiden, Riley and Shaylee; Seager and Azden; and Jakob. Also survived by sister Hilda Cain (Ed) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Charles Davidson Mackay (2008) and sisters Nancy Barber, Joan Wardrope and Vivian Walt. Mona was born in Hamilton, then resided in Sarnia and area for more than 40 years before retiring to London in 1986. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, delighting in each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a humble and tireless volunteer, serving her church and community throughout her life. The extent of her volunteer commitment at St. Anne’s Church was recognized when she received the A.C.W. Woman of the Year Award in 2004. Mom and Dad were blessed with many years of active retirement, which enabled them to embark on many world travelling adventures including two special R.H.L.I. commemorative trips to Europe. Mona enjoyed many years of craft activities at the Kiwanis Senior’s Centre, as well as many seniors bus trips. Mom blessed us all with her wonderful sense of humor, especially her witty one-liners in her final weeks. Sincere thanks to all of Mom’s physicians, and for the gentle care of the Home Care VON nursing staff, as well as the PSW attendants who assisted the family in making Mom’s final days at home peaceful and comfortable. Memorial visitation will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, 1344 Commissioners Road West, on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Ark Aid Street Mission, 696 Dundas Street, London, ON N5W 2Z4 or The RCR Education Fund for Children of Fallen Soldiers, Victoria Barracks, P.O. Box 9999, Stn. Main, Petawawa, ON K8H 2X3. Online condolences available at >www.westviewfuneralchapel.com
