Brian & Cathy, Barb & Andy and Sister Pat Barker. We are very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He grew up in Port Dover but moved to Vittoria after the War as a teenager. The last time I talked to him was about 20 years ago while I was picking up some shirts for screen printing, but we go back to the Forty's. As teenager Bill loved to play Hockey, at Dover. In the first game he took me to he scored several goals, 3 in about 15 seconds. He was also a very good Soft Ball Pitcher. I think being a good sport started him on a good business career. Betty and I were saddened to hear of the passing of your Father. I first met Bill when I was opening a Pro Hardware store. He was always a pleasure to talk with and get his ideas for my business. When I decided to sell my business, I went to Bill with my plan at a Pro Hardware show his first comment was well then you are going to work for Howden's and I was hired, which started a 32 year career with Howden's. Even after Bill left the company to start his own business, I looked at him as a great friend and mentor someone I could always call for advice. He later hired Betty to work at Westmount Pro hardware. Brian & Cathy and Barb & Andy always remember the great times you had with your Mom and Dad they were certainly great people. Our thoughts are with you.

We are sorry to read of Bill's passing. I have several fond memories of your Dad from over the years. Your Dad and Mom were always very good Lockwood Park neighbours to my parents, my sister and myself. In my Dad's retirement years, Bill hired him to work part-time at Westmount Pro Hardware. I believe the hiring was a favour to my Dad. In my twenties, I played hockey for Canada Trust in the financial hockey league. D.H. Howden had a team in the league. Your Dad and Alex Woods played for Howden's and Bill was a better player in his forties, than many of us in our twenties . During the years our children were looked after by my parents, during the summer days your Dad and Mom often invited them to swim in their pool. Years later, Bill and Ed Hancox were customers at our wine making business. These visits allowed time for good conversations and kibitzing on past and current events. Sue and I were saddened to hear of your loss. In so many ways, Bill was a truly gifted individual. He easily developed many friendships within the hardware industry and was highly regarded by customers, suppliers and competitors alike. I first met Bill in 1969 when we moved to London and joined the Howden Company. He was my first boss and one of the driving forces behind the growth and development of the Pro franchise, especially in those early years. I learned a lot from Bill. Sue and I would later travel with Bill and Grace to conventions in the U.S. and Canada and we have many fond memories of them both. Bill told me that one of his proudest accomplishments was developing a family business with Brian and Andy. His life was robust and successful and he will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the family. Bill was a gentleman. I will remember our many coffee conversations with him and Ed Hancox. A good neighbour and supporter of hard work

My condolences to the entire Tarvit family. As one of the original divisional V.P.'s at D.H. Howden & Co. Ltd., it was my great pleasure to work alongside Bill in the early launch & development of Pro Hardware in Canada. Bill was an early visionary of the hardware franchise development for independent retailers. I found Bill to be intelligent, hard-working, loyal to clients and vendors, but, most of all, supportive and helpful to his employees. It was my great pleasure to work with Bill for many good years. May he rest in peace.
