William ‘Bill’ Todd Napier Pickering

May 28, 2023

Surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 28, 2023, William Todd Napier Pickering of London, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of the late Ellen (Nimmo) Pickering (2019). Dearly loved father of Todd Pickering (Jane) and Fiona Currie (Steven). Survived by his much loved brother George (Sheila) Pickering and beloved grandfather of Liam Currie, MacGregor Currie, Ellis Currie, Eric Pickering and Colin Pickering. Proud Uncle to the late Gordon Nimmo, Garry Nimmo, Sharon Nimmo, Mark Pickering and Lisa Pickering.

Born January 14, 1942, in Glasgow, Scotland, to the late William and Annie (McAllister) Pickering. Bill started his career as an apprentice Fitter/Turner which led to becoming a Millwright with Rolls Royce in Scotland, where he met and married Ellen and sailed to a new life in Canada in 1965. Once on Canadian soil, he began his career at Kelvinator, followed by McCormick’s, and worked the next 32 years at the Ford Motor Company in Talbotville, from which he retired. Bill was a proud member of the Lambeth Legion. His quick wit and ability to always have a joke on hand will be sorely missed by many, as will his quiet strength and authenticity.

The family would like to thank Victoria Hospital’s Oncology and Palliative Care staff for their attentive and professional care. The family is very thankful to the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice for the compassionate and professional care they provided to both our father and our family.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.

My heartfelt condolences on your loss. For a while Bill and Ellen attended St. George's Presbyterian Church before they moved. They were missed from the congregation. Both were wonderful people, part of the Scottish community here in the city. My sympathy to you.

We love you Bill, thank you for all you did for my family. You were a dear friend to my grandparents and to us. From our backyard dinners to having you at our wedding. We will hold you close in our hearts. I know you are having a beer with my grandfather telling your amazing jokes xox
