William “Bill” James Lane

October 23, 2024

Suddenly but peacefully at home on October 23, 2024, Bill Lane, at the age of 74.  Beloved husband of Karen Lane.  Loving father to Crystal Hopkins (Rob), Danny Lane, Heather Trott (Aaron), Andrew Lane (Kim), Jennifer de Putter (Chris) and Murray Lane.  Adored grandfather of Aiden Hopkins, Abby Hopkins, Aprilia Vandenbor, Ember Vandenbor, Breeana Oag and Kayla Oag.  Great-grandfather to Gavin de Putter and Bennet Oag.  Bill is also survived by sister Janice Nelson (Murray), and extended family.  Predeceased by father, Harold Lane, mother, Gladys “Bessie” Lane and brother, Murray Lane.

Bill grew up outside the small town of Kingsville, Ontario, on a dairy farm.  In his early years, you could often find him driving the tractor around the farm, picking up stones after the winter thaw, or his favourite, skimming the cream off the milk before it went off to the dairy to be pasteurized.

Like many country boys, the city called to him.  Bill’s thirst for knowledge and an interest in how things worked, led him to education paths at Niagara College, Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and Fanshawe College.  It wasn’t long until he found his true calling and passion… fire safety.

Bill was dedicated to the fire alarm industry and was a long time member of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA).  Over the years, Bill worked for Edwards Fire Safety, Vipond and, most recently, as Territory Manager with Siemens Canada.  He spent the past 31 years combining his two favourite passions (fire safety and talking) by teaching the Fire Safety Program at Fanshawe College, where he helped form the paths for more than a generation of fire alarm technicians.

Bill was a great friend, mentor, colleague  and, most importantly, family man and will be greatly missed by many.

A memorial service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.
