William ‘Bill’ Charles Warwick
March 29, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Bill … after a long and vigorous fight with heart disease, on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017 at 87 years of age, at University Hospital. Left to mourn this wonderful man is his loving wife, Betty. Treasured father of Janice (Bill) Mathers and Peter Warwick. Wonderful Poppa to Caitlin Mathers and her husband Nic Bishop and to Dan Mathers and partner Eve Court. Also loved and missed by great-granddaughter Marnie Bishop. Predeceased by his parents Gertrude and Stewart Warwick. Bill is survived by one brother, Bud (Trish) Warwick of Midhurst, Ontario; his sister-in-law Mona (Don) Gray; sister-in-law Shirley Brekelmans; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was a long-time employee of the Public Utilities Commission, starting his career as draftsman and retiring as Manager of Waterworks Operations and Engineering. During his years at the Public Utilities Commission, Bill looked after the design and construction of the original Storybook Gardens and was instrumental in the construction of the Lake Huron Pipeline. He was well-known for his work and was awarded the George Warren Fuller award for distinguished service in the waterworks field. Bill retired as Commanding Officer of 9 Signals Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces Militia with the rank of Major, having served for 17 years. After retirement from the PUC, Bill took up woodworking as a hobby, spending many hours making everything from oak desks, chests, wine racks and, his standby, oak trays, giving away over a hundred of them. Bill was also an avid golfer and long-time member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, and earned five holes-in-one. One of his and Betty’s favourite things was their winter trips to Florida with their friends for golf. Bill was a very friendly person and loved having his family and friends for dinner and swimming, often coming home and announcing friends were coming over. Among other things, he and Betty, in their early years, loved to go dancing. He really enjoyed his Poker club and loved to play cards, be it Bridge or Pepper. Bill loved watching TV and was an avid Toronto Raptors fan as well as the National Football League, joining in a football pool with Betty and his son. Friends will be received at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Monday, April 3rd, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 489 Pinetree Drive, London on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cardiac Fitness Institute at LHSC or to St. Martin-in-the-Fields would be appreciated.

I am sorry to hear of Bill's passing. As you know I knew him for 40 years and assumed his position at the PUC when Bill retired. We had many golf games together and I will always remember his laugh when I frequently missed a putt. We are away so will not be able to attend the funeral but wanted you to know how much I liked and respected him. PESCARA
