Wayne Reid
June 13, 2019
Peacefully, surrounded by his family, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the age of 62. Cherished husband of Kathy (née Brennan) for 40 years. Loving father of Laurie (Michael) Laker and Heather Reid. Proud grandfather of Riley and Reid Laker. Sadly missed by his mother, Janet Spence (née Anderson); siblings, Russell (Maria), Dennis (Jackie), Cathy (David) Roelans; and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Fraser Reid and by Robert Spence. Born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, Wayne and Kathy were best friends and high school sweethearts. Their love for each other created a remarkable partnership. They took great pride in raising two beautiful daughters, and Wayne truly cherished family time with his girls. As a Chartered Accountant, Wayne started his career at Coopers and Lybrand, before moving to Sifton Properties in 1984, where he worked for the last 35 years. Wayne’s calming presence, wise leadership and brilliant mind were admired by everyone who worked with him. His exceptional memory led him to often recall details that were long lost to others. As a proud member of the executive management team, he played an integral role in the growth and prosperity of Sifton’s many endeavours. Wayne adored his role as Grandpa, and loved when everyone came home to visit. Time spent together was full of smiles, laughter, hugs, and priceless memories. Wayne relished introducing the family traditions of summer cottages and Thanksgiving getaways to his two grandchildren and was truly relaxed when sitting by the water listening to the waves. Wayne’s generosity and caring nature could be seen through his open door policy at home and at work. He will be missed by all who knew him, worked with him, and loved him. We would like to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice for the outstanding care and kindness we all received. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment at Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Wayne are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice, London or a charity of your choice.

Wayne was so loved. I have so many wonderful memories of all the Reid family - our Youth Group days back at First Presbyterian Church in Chatham. Always hanging at the house he teased me relentlessly - just like his dad. Kathy and family, I have no idea the heartache you are feeling at this time but do know you are surrounded by so many that love you all and adored Wayne ! Cherish the love of family and friends and each other. Much love, Jayme and the Bennett family.

Kathy and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. When I think of you and Wayne I remember a lot of fond memories and wonderful times. Through high school and especially university, we had such fun spending time together - playing cards, driving to Sudbury in the middle of winter in a car without heat (lol), planning our weddings together, the house on Curry St. requiring an enormous amount of painting, and so much more. Watching the love you two had for each other as I stood up in your wedding with you, made me see how very right the two of you were together. As the years progressed, and we moved apart, we lost contact with each other. But every time I think of the two of you, it is with love and fond memories. I am so very glad that we reconnected a few years ago. Kathy, if you ever need a friend to talk to, I am always here for you. My prayers and love are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Cathy and family, my condolences to you on losing a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
