W. Gordon Russell

June 8, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of W. Gordon Russell on Thursday, June 8th, 2023 at LHSC – University Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, in his 89th year. Gordon passed peacefully surrounded by family, while listening to his favourite songs and artists. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Alice Russell, and his sister Barbara Russell. He is survived by his one true love, Margaret Russell (née Dinsdale), who caught his one “good” eye at a local dance seventy years ago and never looked back. He is also survived by his daughters Christianne Russell (Arthur), Elizabeth Parker (David) and his son, Andrew Russell (Sharon). He leaves behind four grandchildren, Julianne, Meghan, Michelle, and Erika, as well as two great-grandsons, Carson and Elliot.

Gordon immigrated to Canada with his wife Margaret in 1959, and never let go of his “scouser” heritage and memories formed in Liverpool. Although Liverpool was kept in his heart, Canada became his forever home. Gordon spent the majority of his career with Bell Canada dedicated to his work as a supervising engineer of mechanical and electrical design. Gord can be best remembered for his inability to tolerate fools, his disdain for grammatical errors, and his lack of patience for those who could only count by taking off their shoes and socks (which includes all of his immediate family). He is well-known for his sense of humour and his complete lack of fashion sense. Burned into our collective memories are his bright yellow SpongeBob t-shirt accompanied by his below the knee length bright red basketball shorts and his beloved black socks and sandals, Calvin who?? Our “Captain Obvious” had a great love for music, a passion for fishing, and a keen desire to recreate the tastes and dishes from the many places he visited around the world. He was an unapologetic, generous, and at times, a controversial soul that will be forever missed. “Cheerio, Dad” There will be no visitation or services. Gord’s friends and loved ones may contact his wife, Margaret Russell, or family members to express their condolences.
