Peacefully, at home, with her loving family beside her, Velma passed away in her 90th year. Predeceased by her husband, and best friend, Hugh; her son, Eric; sister Shirley Ormsby; brother, David Ault; and many other relatives and long-time friends. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren in the beautiful mountain country of Colorado Springs: Emily, Josiah, William, Ted, and Bethany Robberson. Together, they all shared many years of good times, both in Colorado and Ontario. Closer to home, she will be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Lisa McGonigle (Steve) and Mark McGonigle (Andrea); and great-grandchildren: Matthew and Emily McGonigle. She always had wonderful support from her very special daughters and their husbands: Christine and Raymond McGonigle, Adrienne, and Peter Robberson. Velma grew up in Toronto where she acquired a Primary School Specialist Certificate after University and went on to teach in Toronto. Her marriage to Hugh, in 1954, took her to the town of Iroquois which was preparing to be moved before the flooding of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Then followed teaching in Cobourg, Barrie, and Essex County. She also enjoyed working with adults, teaching English as a second language in Windsor and the Bethel Bible Studies at Oakridge Presbyterian Church in London. Velma saw teaching as hard work and a great privilege. Velma and Hugh retired to London in 1989 and enjoyed the city very much. They travelled widely with several trips to Europe and fourteen programs with Road Scholars all over North America. Their whole family treasured the twenty-four years they had vacationing together at Lake Peninsula near Huntsville. Velma and Hugh were grateful for their full lives and wished anyone reading their cemetery marker: “Long may your big jib draw.” Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Our sincere condolences to the entire Morrison family. Velma and Hugh were wonderful neighbours, and especially reached out to Doug's mum and dad. Velma lit up the room, and was always so engaging with her wonderful positive outlook. Christine & Ray- you will miss her terribly, but will have such wonderful memories. So sorry for your loss. Our sincere condolences to Chris and Ray and family and Adrienne and Peter and family. Velma was a lovely lady, a wonderful neighbour, and a dear friend. We will miss watching for her walking down the street with Susie in the lead. We will miss her very much.
Velma was truly a wonderful lady and it was a great pleasure to have known her and spend time in her company. Omagh Co Tyrone Northern Ireland.
I had the pleasure of working with Velma when she was teaching at Gosfield North School. She was so kind and her sense of humour brought many a smile. I have many fond memories.

She was my auntie and I made a point of reaching out to her, even through the miles that separated us. I just loved her take on life and her warmth. The letters and calls will truly be missed. Always will have a place in my heart forever

She was a truly a beautiful person. I will miss our funny conversations and her laugh. She had a way of bringing the best out of the people around her . So easy to talk to and full of personality and fun. I will truly miss her , she was a great lady. Dear Christine and Adrienne and Families, Velma and Hugh became our neighbours when they moved to London. We thoroughly enjoyed their company and the many chats over the backyard fence in summer and in each other's homes in winter. Velma often said that when the realtor brought them to that house - we came over to the fence and introduced ourselves and strongly influenced their decision to purchase it. We were so glad that they did. Velma's lovely smile and laugh brightened the room at any gathering. She was never short of topics to chat about and visits were always anticipated with pleasure. Velma had a joyful life. Our deepest sympathy on her passing.

Dear Christine and Adrienne, Although many years have passed I will remember my Aunt Velma and Uncle Hugh with great fondness. Uncle Hugh’s passion for cribbage and Aunt Velma’s sheer joy and laughter. They both shared a deep love for each other, their family and life. They left a lasting impression on my life.
