Theresa Ann Haggarty (née Power)
March 25, 1928 - September 21, 2023
Born into earthly life – March 25, 1928. Surrounded by family at home, died peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Beloved wife of the late Jerome (Jerry) Haggarty (August 9, 2009). Mother of her cherished, caring children, Suzanne of Kitchener, Barbara (Paul Hebert) of London, Kathleen of Edmonton, Jack (Holly Tsun) of Thunder Bay and Jamie (Lora Valoppi) of Los Angeles. Theresa was predeceased by her loving parents, John and Minnie Power of Windsor; sisters, Olive (Desmond Deneau), Augustine Power, Kathleen (William Gatfield); brothers, John (Mildred Petrie) and Bernard (Shirley Fleming), all of Windsor. She was also predeceased by her beloved grandson, Alexander Hebert.
Theresa is survived by her dear grandchildren: Cathryn, Carolyn and Andrew Ouellette of Kitchener, Braedon Hebert (Ashley) of London, Brent Hebert (Claire Leighton) of Hamilton, Emmett (Ashley Lee) of Edmonton, Klara Gorman (Jarett Noel) of Calgary, Daphne (Mark Doble) of Toronto, Leon Haggarty (Samantha) of Oshawa, Moria (Craig Edwards) of Thunder Bay, Liam Haggarty of Toronto and Ethan Haggarty of California. Our family was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Trejean Ouellette, Wyatt, Ruby and Ella Hebert, Freya and Felix Lee-Gorman, Charles, Marius and Gloria Doble, and Seth and Nico Edwards.
Theresa’s life was so enriched with a wonderful family and many caring and devoted nephews, nieces and friends whose visits, calls and emails were thoroughly enjoyed. Theresa is survived by her brother-in-law Frank Haggarty (late Betty). Predeceasing her were members of the Haggarty family: Emmett (Angela), Ellahree (Clem Payton), Mildred (Albert Schaefer), Kay (Frank Stapleton), Helen (Bob Devereaux), Leon Haggarty, Margaret (Jack O’Reily) and Jerome’s parents, Margaret and Michael Haggarty. Also the many dear friends who shared a great part of her life whether at work, church, or the various schools she attended. Theresa was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and Holy Names College in Windsor, and graduated from Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, Michigan.
Theresa’s life was fulfilled with many interests and activities: sewing for her children and herself, creator of great culinary dinner parties, baker and cookie maker extraordinaire, administrative assistant for Jerome, devoted servant to her Catholic faith as Eucharistic Minister, lector and visiting the sick of the parish at Our Lady of Assumption, Windsor, volunteering at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, former President and member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) Windsor, and member of St. George’s Church and Divine Mercy in London. Devotee of the theatre and love of the arts. Theresa fulfilled her dream of painting portraits of her husband Jerome, a self-portrait, five children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she resumed art classes, spending endless, but enjoyable hours painting scenes and portraits while listening to her favorite music. She enjoyed her many summer mornings during her retirement years participating in aqua-fit classes in the Quinella condo pool.
Theresa cherished 54 happy years of marriage to a wonderful husband and the love shared with their extensive family. Strong faith was the strength shared over the years, endearing friendships with family, friends, affiliations with the Basilian Fathers, Sisters of the Holy Names, Windsor, Sisters of St. Joseph, and the church family in London. Theresa’s family appreciates the care and support given by Martha Ordonez, Jennifer Asuncio, Senior Home Care by Angels, Shelley Moffat, and Leslie Neable. Theresa’s motto: “Hope, Faith and Love” – will live on in our memories. Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with prayers at 3:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. George’s Parish, 1164 Commissioners Road West, London on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Our sincere sympathies on the loss of Aunt Terri. What an inspiring lady. We sure will miss catching up; we always thoroughly enjoyed our chats with her. Unfortunately, we are away, and will not be able to attend this week. Double the hugs when we see you in person next.
I have known the Haggarty family for over 35 years. They are a great family headed by two wonderful parents. I loved chatting with Mrs. Haggarty (Theresa), she always had a good story to tell. A kind, generous and smart woman. May she rest in peace. All my best to the Haggarty family.
My deepest condolences to the beloved family of this dear beautiful lady. During the days her sister Gussy was a resident of Villa Maria in Windsor Theresa visited her often and volunteered for eucharistic ministering and brought her sister to the parties and entertainments, often helping get other residents there as well. She always had the warmest heart and brightest smile! I always cherished her Christmas cards even after her and her husband moved to London. You were all blessed to have this special lady and I know you'll be left with many beautiful memories. God bless you all and sustain you with her spiritual embrace, love never dies.
On behalf of the Capuchin brothers I offer my deepest sympathies on the passing of Theresa Ann. It is truly humbling to receive memorial donations in honor of her life. Please be assured of the brother's prayers for the entire Haggarty family during this great time of grief. May perpetual light shine upon Theresa Ann.
I do not know this beautiful woman or her family but I wanted to express my adoration of her life. She filled it with giving to everything and everyone. What a beautiful eulogy of the selfless human being!
Dear Jack, Holly and family. Please accept our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy during this time. Although we didn’t know your Mother, after reading the passage about her I feel as though she was a person we would have loved to have spent time with. Sending Love and warmth during this difficult time and blessings for the celebration of all the Life she was a part of…
She will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was such a lovely stylish lady. I'll always think of her whenever we go for a ride in her old car.
We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Terri's passing. Aunt Terri was such a wonderful, caring and sweet person. I enjoyed our Sunday visits when they lived in Windsor. May the cherished memories bring you all comfort in this time of loss. Love to all you! Christine and Wayne Haggarty
