The Honourable Kenneth Francis Ross

March 15, 2016

Retired Superior Court of Justice, Q.C., passed away peacefully at home in his 83rd year, on Tuesday, March 15th, 2016 after a long illness. Survived by Helen (nee Macpherson), his devoted wife of 55 years. Ken was a loving and inspiring father to his four children: Chris (Loretta), Angela, Michael and Martin (Melissa). An exceptionally proud and supportive grandfather, he will be missed greatly by Jeffrey, Rachel, Sarah, Scott, Eric, Jack and Heather. Predeceased by his parents Frances (Matthews) and John Ross, and brothers Jack Ross and James “Jim” Ross. Born in 1934 in Toronto, Ken attended St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. Ken practiced law in Chatham, Ontario, for 25 years before being appointed to the County Court in Sarnia, Ontario, which subsequently became the Superior Court. He sat in Sarnia and London until his retirement in 2008. Until just a few years ago, Ken thoroughly enjoyed spending his spare time on the golf course with Helen, and devoted countless hours in endless pursuit of the perfect set of golf clubs for each of them. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. George Roman Catholic Parish, 1164 Commissioners Road West, London, on Monday, March 21st, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be greatly appreciated.

I worked in Chatham from 1977 to 1984 as an RCMP and knew Ken very well. My condolences to all his family. I’m very late with this but Kens name just came up with conversation with my wife so I did a search and found this saddening news. I’m glad to have worked with such an honorable person.

I send my condolences to Mrs. Ross and all the family. Justice Ross was always a kind, caring person. He always cared about what was happening in the court room, but also what was happening in our lives. Truly, I have missed him since his retirement, but am saddened with his passing. Sending special thoughts and prayers to all of you in this sad time. Remember all the good times and memories, and take care of one another. Hugs, Meg

It's ironic that each one of us comes into this world crying and the rest of us rejoice and yet each one of us leaves this world rejoicing and the rest of us cry. Grieve in your own time and your own way but remember in celebration and gratitude. Ken was a great man who will surely be missed by the family and all who were privileged to know him. May the quiet places of your hearts be filled with the sweet echoes of his love. While it may be difficult to find the memories you need to help comfort you, they are there and when they find you may their love and warmth bring each of you peace and serenity. In heartfelt sympathy, Richard and I mourn the loss of your loved one, my Uncle Ken. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Janis (Ross) Podesta

To Helen and family, I am so sorry to hear of Ken's death. He was such a good boss. I have really missed his story telling and jokes. There was no one like him, he was a very good lawyer and Judge. He was always so proud of his family. May God bless you all and give you comfort.
