Teresa Marie Bartley

With great sadness we announce the passing of Teresa Marie Bartley on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the age of 16. Teresa died at home in London, Ontario after a long struggle with depression and anxiety.

Teresa was born to Justin Bartley (London) and Trisha McCarthy (St. John’s) on November 16, 2001. Teresa was beloved sister to Rin Bartley (London), and is survived by her grandparents Peter and Mary Bartley (London), and Barry and Anne Mudray (Winnipeg); aunts and uncles Gabriel & Greg Davids (London), Andrew Bartley & Corinne Walsh (London), Rev. Ross Bartley (Lucan), and Colin Mudray (Winnipeg); step-father Chris McCarthy (St. John’s); step-brothers Casey, Ryan, and Darcy McCarthy (London); and her cat Nina, snake Festus, and Dennis the tree.

Teresa adored her pets and ran to greet every cat, dog, and living thing she encountered. She proudly proclaimed, “I’m gay,” every day, and was a champion for inclusion and diversity. She played video games with online friends around the world, where she was known as boggled and gemetic. She loved reading, baking cookies, riding her bike, taking photos, babysitting Colin and Claire, and working at Platinum Leadership. Teresa’s energy and enthusiasm were contagious.

Teresa’s family is grateful for the thoughtful acts of kindness offered by so many: the teachers of St. Jude, Central, Cornerstone Alternative, and Beal who encouraged her; the health care professionals who supported her; the police, first responders, and LHSC staff who served Teresa with compassion and dignity the day she died; and the many friends and colleagues who have reached out in sympathy during this difficult time. Thank you.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Visitation begins at 6:00 p.m. with service at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow, with interment in the spring at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London. For those who wish, donations to the London Animal Care Centre or Canadian Mental Health Association in Teresa’s memory are welcome.
