Terence ‘Terry’ Edward O’Toole

August 21, 2023

Terry, affectionately known by many as Chief, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Parkwood Institute, in his 90th year. Predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Molly O’Toole (née Warren). Father of Karen Johns (Peter), Martin O’Toole (Kim Bakker), and Kathy Yurek (Mike). Cherished grandfather of Allan, David, Amy, Scott (Brianna), Thomas (Katherine), and Andrew. Blessed with four great-grandchildren: Weston, Bryce, Payton, and Jolene Molly. Survived by three of his nine siblings and by extended family in Canada and Guernsey.

Terry immigrated to Canada from Guernsey, Channel Islands in the mid-1950s and married Molly (also from Guernsey) in 1956. They put down roots in London, Ontario where they made many friends throughout their lives. Terry, a bricklayer by trade, loved his family, his cottage in Goderich, fishing, gardening, daily walks, a good laugh, and rarely missed watching Premiere League and World Cup soccer matches. Terry spent his last years at Longworth Retirement Home, where new friendships were made and his passion for gardening continued.

A memorial reception will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., with words of remembrance at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Terry are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation – Parkwood Institute, in recognition of the excellent care he received there.

Uncle Terry and Auntie Molly regularly visited Guernsey to see the rest of the family! As an uncle he was a real teaser when we were young girls growing up! We had some lovely times with him and won’t forget them. You will be missed Uncle Terry. One of your nieces Michelle Tullier (Brehaut)

We were so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. Terry (and Tony Gibson) were the absolute best bricklayers in London. Truly Masters of their craft. We also enjoyed visiting Terry and Molly at the cottage a couple of times, where we always had a laugh and a wonderful time.

Terry was our neighbour & good friend at Cranbrook Close for over twenty years. He often showed up at our door with fresh veggies from his garden & the best garlic cloves ever! We remember good times with Molly & Terry at their cottage & in Savannah. There were many chats about travels , Guernsey & soccer over Appleton & Tullamore Dew. We will really miss him. I have just a few words to say about my wonderful brother Terry. I have many lovely memories from childhood into adulthood. He was a good man, honorable, kind, thoughtful, caring- a great sense of humor, a bit of a tease, he could always make me laugh. It is with these thoughts that I will remember him with a smile on my face His loving sister Sheila

Terry was the first man my Dad Roger worked with when he came to Canada in the 1950s and they remained great friends all their lives. I always enjoyed spending time with him - often along my Dad, Bob and Tony. Hard to believe he is gone. I will really miss him. Deepest sympathies to Martin, Kathy and Karen from the whole Walters Family.

Terry was a beautiful soul that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. When I started at Longworth this year, he made a point to visit my office everyday, just to check in to see how it was going. It quickly became a highlight in my day, terry would always come with either a chocolate or a Werther's- both were welcomed with his cheerful smile. I will remember him fondly.

We have fond memories of Terry at some family gatherings. He was so full of life and was truly devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed.
