It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Stanley Joseph Wheeler, retired Warrant Officer, CD, Canadian Armed Forces, at home on Saturday, June 6, 2020, in London, following an exceptionally courageous and brave fight with cancer at the age of 60 years. Stan will be forever loved and missed by his wife Laurie (née Farr), whose steadfast love for him was no more apparent than in his last months of his life as she cared for him in their home. He will be greatly missed by his constant companion and furry buddy Charlie. Stan was the treasured brother of his proud siblings: Elaine (Russell), Sonny (Debbie), Yvonne (Mike), Nancy, Madeline (Greg), Vernon (Vickie), Ross (Alice), Debbie (Bud), and Wanda (Glen), all of Nova Scotia or Newfoundland. Admired brother-in-law of Debbie Farr, of Pembroke. Stan is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by true friends Mark and Kathy Prescott, Ron and Kathy Merk and Paul Paris. Predeceased by parents Hughie and Lorraine Wheeler; sister Jaunita; parents-in-law Cyril and Beverley Farr (née Prescott); and brother-in-law Kevin Farr. Stan enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and honorably served his country for 20 years with the Canadian Airborne Regiment, Royal Canadian Regiment and the RCR Battle School. He successfully completed several advanced infantry certifications during his eight years in the Airborne Regiment, including Master Sniper and Pathfinder, which are long hailed as some of the most grueling and challenging courses in the Canadian Army. Stan was a qualified Mountain Operations Instructor, Jumpmaster, Parachute Instructor and Advanced Recce Patrolman. He completed a 6-month tour of duty as a UN Peacekeeper in Cyprus. Stan was a soldier’s soldier and was greatly respected by his peers and superiors. Stan was born in Newfoundland and his sense of humour was always evident. His random acts of kindness and generosity were felt by many throughout his life. Respecting Stan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes and a Celebration of an Extraordinary Life will occur in Pembroke, Ontario at Malcolm Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, at a later date. Laurie, I was so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May you take comfort in the support of surrounding family and friends as well as the memories you will cherish always.

We are very saddened by the news of Stan's passing, we only knew him for a short while but knew he was fighting with all his might! He was always upbeat and happy, and spoke of his love for his family here and in Newfoundland. We will miss seeing him walking Charlie, sending deepest sympathy to Laurie and family. He will be missed.
Laurie, we wish we were in London now to celebrate Stan's life with you in person. What a character! So many fond memories of Brandy Lane court neighbour adventures. We all enjoyed this special community and of course Stan was in the middle with his stories from the military, his various job stories and always Max (at that time), by his side. So blessed to have these memories in our heart.
My deepest and sincerest condolences to Laurie, Charlie and family. I was fortunate to meet Stan during the few years he worked for Canada Post. He was a hard worker, funny and above all had a sense of integrity that is so rare these days. His love for animals and his desire to help out anyone less fortunate than himself was unparalleled. He was so generous and kind and was the first to put his hand in his pocket to support another human being. May you find peace Laurie in the beautiful memories you have of you two.

We are so fortunate to have met Stan Wheeler. We have so many great memories that we will cherish forever. From the day that we met Stan through Laurie, we were instantly swept away by his humor, generosity and his unbelievable love of life. We were both proud to have been "Newfie Screeched", with Stan officiating! Stan always made us feel at home and welcome, weather it was in his and Laurie's home or at a camp site. Stan was a stand up citizen, weather he was saving the world, a few ducks, or a moose, or his fellow man, he was there. He will me sadly missed. He is and always will be the strongest man we have ever met. We know you are up there awaiting your own personal Rolling Stones Concert. Rock on Stan. We will miss you dearly, and we will look out for Laurie.

I was fortunate to know Stan when I was a young soldier in the Airborne. Like so many others who trained and lived with him, Stan was a mentor, he was the example, he was respected by all he touched with "his way". I am sad to hear he has left us, however, we all have the memories that we hold close to us and share with only a few that could ever know their meaning. Airborne!! My sincere condolences to the family.

I had the honor of serving with Stan and living across the hall from him in the quarters in Petawawa. I could sit for hours on end and tell you some great stories we had about Stan, he was a tough Airborne Soldier which was second to non. Stan would always be there if you needed help and asset you in anyway he could. We had some great times in Mountain training and instructing on the course. I have not been in contact with Stan for a long time, to hear this without getting to sit and talk about old times is sad and heartbreaking. Airborne my brother, rest in piece your job on earth is done, we have your shift now, until Valhalla brother, Airborne.

Our deepest condolances go out to all of the families of Stan. A man who will always be remembered, we were all connected in some way through both of our parents whom were close friends. He was a kind man indeed! May God keep you strong during this sad time and know that he is in peace ðŸ™ðŸ™ðŸ™
So sad to hear. Stan was one heck of a soldier. It was a great honour to serve with him. We were on a couple of unarmed combat demo teams, repelling exercises and a few adventures. Pleasant journey ole comrade. RIP Stan-the-Man.

I knew Stan and Laurie through Max and Charlie. He loved his dogs and I loved him for that. We had some good laughs over the years. I will miss that. He fought the good fight.....he will be missed by us all. We were all touched in some way by his humour and his kindness. My heart goes out to Laurie and his family. He went to early but he left good memories in our hearts.

Dear Laurie & Family: So very sorry to hear of Stan's passing. He was a great neighbour and true friend. I can still remember meeting Stan for the first time. I was walking back from the mailbox after getting my mail and Stan introduced himself to me and quickly gave me an "open invitation" to drop by for a beer on a Friday after work. The conditions were "if the garage door is up, stop by and if the garage door is down it meant you're sleeping." I will miss Stan's great sense of humour, kindness, and generous spirit. May he rest in peace.
Dear Laurie; Steve and I are so sorry to hear about the passing of Stan. We will miss his smiling face and chuckles that we would have when we would meet while walking our dogs. He always had an interesting story to share. We will miss him but he will never be forgotten.

Brent always loved hearing from him with some good words of wisdom or just plain humour. It was always nice to see him come visit when he came home. He will be truly missed. He was a good man.
He was a great friend.i met him when we were 15 years old.The 3 of us were great friends,stan,myself and dillon.we got into so much mischief lol,we finally moved to newbrunswick where the 3of us worked at mcdonalds.they were special years that i carried with me for 40 years,you will be missed my friend.
