Simon Antonius Swart

April 3, 2023

Passed suddenly at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario, on Monday, April 3, 2023 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Joanne for 59 years. Loving father of Sylvia (Mark), Yvonne (Greg), Jon (Vicki) and Jennifer (Chris). Adored grandfather of Jessica, Cassie, Ben, Anna, Claire, Nolan, Jonathon, Kalena, Preston and Aria. Dear great-grandfather of Zoey. Will be greatly missed by brothers, sisters and countless friends and family.

Simon was a very proud and hardworking person who cared deeply for the people around him, and loved spending time with family and friends. One of his passions was his trumpet, and he enjoyed playing in many bands and orchestras over the years. He celebrated life and his favorite way to finish the day was enjoying a slice of Joanne’s homemade apple pie.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, where a Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. A livestream of the service is available for those unable to attend in person. "Sammy"- and his- "trumpet"- was a member of the John Ham show band "The Futuras" featured at the refurbished- Hotel Imperial- Grand Bend in 1968. My brother and I ran the hotel. It's hard to talk about Sammy without including the other members of the band. They were all in their twenties and they formed an important part of the overall program transforming the "Imperial" from a rowdy party place to a safe respectable social gathering establishment attracting such notables as the then Gov. of Mich. and the Mayor of Detroit. My association with Sammy and the band lasted but six weeks but the personal admiration for these guys has never wavered. That was 55 years ago-no contact since ,until a few weeks ago when I was invited to lunch with the band members . We discussed Sammys trumpet playing. -Also the theme song "Movin' On"--and how we don't look any different to day than we did then. Sammy was a true gentleman. -I believe that this life is temporary , a testing time perhaps-I believe we will be together with "Sammy" again.

Simon was a great man. I met him through the Mocha Band and he invited me to join him with the Tomato Soup Band. I have learned so much about trumpet playing through him. One of my most favourite memories is watching Joanne and he dancing together. They were poetry in motion. Miss you Simon.

Dear Joanne and Family, We were so sorry to hear the news about Simon. We have not kept track of you folks since I left the band. I have such fond memories of Simon. At one of the first band parties, when we were just getting to know band members and their spouces, it was Simon who came over to our table and welcomed us to the band. From then on there were so many memories, with Simon always there as a friend and support. He will be missed by so many. To be included in your very wide circle of friends will not be forgotten. Love and best wishes to you and your family in this difficult time. Glen and Pat Wright

Man, I will miss you. We made such a good team. As board members of the DCS, and in the activity committee. An initiative you started. But most of all, I will miss a dear friend. A kind man with an open vision. I loved talking to you. I know I will never forget you. Music brings people together, and so did you. Our heart felt condolences go to Joanne and the family. We think of you during this difficult time.

For 62 years I’ve know you as a good friend. We made music together, shared laughs, and sang songs under that old oak tree on your Moms front lawn waking up the neighbours at 3 in the morning. We started a band “ The Futuras” Our closing song after each show was “Moving on”. Well my friend, I know you have found that place in the sun. To Joanne and your family our heart felt condolences, our thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. You will be missed by all but never forgotten. May you RIP Simon , John and Corinne
