Shirley Anne Julian

January 12, 2024

Shirley Anne Julian of Woodstock, in her 93rd year, passed peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Age Care nursing home in London, Ontario.

She is survived by her two sons, Bob and Steve (Joan) Julian; brother Terry Humberstone; a host of nieces and nephews, as well as her prized grandchildren, Paige, Claire, Challen and Molly.  She is predeceased by her husband Peter, sister Jill Wilson, and brother Geoff Humberstone.

Shirley was born on July 6, 1931 in Nottingham, England to the late Wilfred and Trudi Humberstone.  After emigrating to Canada at age 16, she made Woodstock her home  where she later met and married Peter Julian. She often aptly described herself as a “do-er”, and had a multitude of hobbies.  She enjoyed swimming, golf, knitting, furniture restoration, hiking and, most of all, rug hooking. She went on to become a well-known yoga and fitness instructor at the local Woodstock YMCA.  Shirley also cherished her summers with family and friends at the cottage in Port Elgin.  At age 80 she fearlessly embraced the digital era claiming, “Even at 80, you have to keep up with the times”.  She was one of a kind, living life to the fullest, and she will be missed.

A special thank you to cousins Judy and Colleen, who have supported her over the years. Shirley has been cremated, and a Celebration of Life was held with immediate family and friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in London, Ontario.
