Ruth Vera Dettmer
October 31, 2022
Peacefully in her sleep at home in London, Ontario on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the age of 96.
Ruth was a very special part of our lives.
Adored and beloved aunt of Wendi (John) Schwindt of Lion’s Head, and Sue (Dan) Gremm of Tobermory, and the late Peggy Dettmer (2016). Ruth was loved and will be missed by her great nieces and nephews, David (Marcie), Michael (Jill), Sara, Anna (Trevor), and Erin (Jesse). Cherished great-great aunt of Meghan, Isabelle, Ivy, Olivia, Danny, Harrison, Ellie, and Tucker. Predeceased by her parents Harry and Clara Dettmer; brother Wilf (1996); and sister-in-law Audrey (2015).
Ruth loved to read and was a prolific painter with watercolours. She was an avid traveler, having visited 55 countries in her life. Ruth received her Masters of Psychology from the University of Waterloo, and was employed as a Psychologist with the London Board of Education from 1966 until her retirement in 1986. Following retirement, she volunteered at the cancer clinic.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Pam Smith and the staff at Maple View Terrace Retirement Residence for their dedicated and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Ruth’s memory may make a donation to the London Public Library.

I started working in the Psychology department of the school board after Ruth retired but I met her at our Christmas parties. She was a lovely individual with a great smile and laugh. Her encouragement and work left a positive and ongoing impact. My deepest condolences to her family.
Wendi, John and family and all of Aunt Ruth's family. So sorry to see your special Aunt has passed on. I remember you talking fondly of this special lady. Sincere sympathy Wendi and take care.
On behalf of my mother, Barbara Lee, who was a long time friend and colleague of Ruth’s, my deepest condolences.
We will miss you...
