Ruth Sherwood
May 1, 2022
After a courageous, 4-year battle with cancer, Ruth peacefully passed on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, surrounded by her family at the age of 71. Loving mother to Tara (Mike) and Bill (Laura). Adored Grandma to Jackson and Brynn. Cherished sister of Terry Hay. Ruth will also be deeply missed by Checkers the Cat. Predeceased by her parents Roy and Phylis Curnoe and sister Leigh Thompson.
Ruth spent her years taking care of everyone else. In the end, she finally allowed others to take care of her. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Paul and Brenda Morgan and Susan Berk for all their support of Ruth during these difficult times.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London.

Ruth's wonderful laugh still resonates. I enjoyed many coffee and lunch dates with Ruth. I admired and respected Ruth both at work and outside the school environment. She dealt with her cancer with incomparable courage, dignity and grace. She was so proud of her family, especially the Grandkids. They have so much to admire and be proud of in Ruth. Treasure the wonderful memories of a wonderful lady. Denise Moreland

My sincere condolences to the family. I worked with Ruth at Westminster SS and we stayed in touch ever since. She was passionate with everything she did and had a wonderful laugh. She was so proud of her family and was a true friend. Heaven has gained a special angel.
I have many memories of Ruth in her role in the office at Westminster SS and as a friend outside of school. We shared a love of stamping and card making for a few years. Lots of teasing and laughs remain in my mind and will echo on! My condolences to her family.
So many memories of time spent with my cherished friend. We shared many ups, downs, tears & laughter over the years. We trusted each other & allowed ourselves to be vulnerable with each other. She was like a sister. I along with so many will remember being at work & going to ask her a question she’d look over her reading glasses situated on the tip of her nose saying, “go away” followed by “what do you want”. However, she always took time to help. She was admired & respected by many. We shared trips to England, Italy & Aruba. Along with many shopping trips to Port Huron. In fact she shopped right up until two weeks ago! I would drive but she directed. She did things on her terms right to the end. If we disagreed on our likes. She would say “it is about me Susan“. However, this past birthday she gave me a card saying “Today is about you”. We loved to tease each other. Her world changed in a heartbeat four years ago yet she was determined to carry on. She was so courageous & such an inspiration to me. I felt honoured & privileged to share her journey these past four years. I will miss you my friend. ❤️

It was an honor and a privilege getting to work with Ruth at Oakridge. She was 'one in a million' who would do anything for anyone. And we asked a lot of Ruth, as she knew everything too! I will miss Ruth's sharp wit, dry humor, and my daily greeting from her of, "go away"!!! :o) RIP

Oh my Ruth, I just recently learned of your passing, I did not even know you were ill, my condolences to your family and friends. This is not how I envisioned things going when we were kids learning and playing in our Kilworth homesteads, long before our adult lives took us in different directions, having kids, grandkids and live long work. Being born in the same year and spending our first fourteen years traveling the same roads, walking to the one room school with our little group from the town line corner, going off to Central school, then high school, the times when your mom cared for me at your place when both my parents were still working, and I was too young to be home alone, you were a constant friend and pal in those early years. Growing up in our version of Kilworth was simply amazing. Even though we did not see each other for many years we did get to chat and one of the last things you said to me was "Wayne, you can call anytime". I will hold on to that thought for the rest of my days. Losing you is like losing a piece of the foundation of life how we grew up and became adults.. You were always just so kind, and you will long be remembered as a first "Best Friend" I will miss you...
