Rosetta ‘Rose’ Eleanor Leadbitter

With her family close, Rosetta Eleanor Leadbitter (née Wood) of Romford Essex, England, in her 93rd year, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13th, 2018, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Rose was a very special lady who led a very full life. She met her beloved husband, George, while she was serving as a Wren in the British Navy during the Second World War. George was a sailor and always said as soon as he saw her, he knew Rose was the woman for him. They had two daughters and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Rose was feisty, strong and charming with friends and strangers. She was a devoted wife to George, and a loving and dear mother to Wendy (Brian) and Gill (Ray). Perhaps she never noticed how greatly she changed our worlds by the gifts of laughter, creativity and love she shared with us all. She loved being a grandmother to Kerri (Bill), Greg (Sarah), Calvin (Andrea), Sarah (Joe), and Steven (Emily). She took so much pride in being a Great-Nana to Craig, Davis, Carter, Addie and Lauren. Rose will be remembered as a knitter extraordinaire, and she had the ability to feed an army of family and guests without notice. She was a devoted observer of news, sports, weather and politics. She enjoyed a challenging game of euchre and she loved to play a vigorous game of Jenga with her grandchildren. Rose remained feisty until her last breath. She lived a full life and we imagine her now at peace and reunited with her beloved George. A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Strathmere Lodge and Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital for their compassionate care and warmth in caring for Mom’s needs. A Celebration of Life will take place at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Sunday, May 27th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Rose are asked to consider the Strathmere Lodge Auxiliary or the Canadian Cancer Society.

I knew Rose from my time volunteering with meals on wheels, I drove Rose for several years and I have to say she was a favourite to me. How lovely she was, I will miss seeing her . Please accept my condolences on your great loss. Mary Lee Maahs

Aunt Rose was a devoted sister to my dad Len and sister-in-law Peggy. They had a lot of good laughs when she came to our house to visit. She was a wonderful aunt to us and always remembered to ask about what plans we had for the future, hunting, heading north etc. When I was a teenager there is one memory I won't forget. I sometimes went for Sunday dinner and the dessert was my favourite as she made a cake with butter icing and was so delicious. We had fun times camping and going to the beach with her and uncle George playing leapfrog and swimming. I still miss those times and I will miss visiting with her, A lovely lady. Love Margaret
