Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Muldowney (née Johnston)

January 24, 2022

Roberta “Bobbie” Muldowney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Monday, January 24, 2022. Her family is thankful for the wonderful, kind care she received from St. Joseph’s Hospice staff and the Palliative Care Team. Daughter of an air force pilot, Roberta was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, and lived on air force bases throughout her young life. She first met the love of her life Dennis in 1956 when they were both living at CFB Greenwood, N.S. They reunited in RCAF Station Centralia, Ontario, in 1963. She was a lifeguard in her teen years. “Bobbie” graduated from Woodstock General Hospital as a Registered Nurse (and Valedictorian of her class) in 1965. She and Denny married that same year. They welcomed children Christine and Robert and settled in Oakville before relocating to London, Ontario, with Denny’s employer Xerox. Roberta was a homemaker and kept a beautiful home for her family. She loved the outdoors. She had a passion for gardening with overflowing flower beds wherever she lived. Oh, how she loved her books and magazines. She lived to read and was knowledgeable on so many subjects including history, archeology, religion, and Queen Elizabeth (almost a religion). Bert was a spiritual person. She was highly creative. She loved to craft, paint, needlepoint, knit, crochet, and embroider. She was an excellent cook and baker. Holidays were always a special time of celebration at the dinner table. She thankfully passed on this culinary talent to her son and grandchildren. Another fond passion was shopping. Many of us were left behind on one of Bert’s shopping excursions. Of all Roberta’s passions, her love of family was the greatest of them all. “Mumma” is predeceased by her loving husband Dennis, parents Marguerite and Robert, parents-in-law Muriel and William, sister-in-law Louise and brother-in-law Terence. Beloved mother of Christine (Scott), Robert and four-legged Jack. Cherished Nana of Evan, Isaac, and Madison. Deeply missed by her brother Glen and sister-in-law Marjorie. Very fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Helen, Irene, and Nancy (Stuart). Dear aunt to niece and goddaughter Shaundra (Manish), niece Arien (Jonathan), and nephews Graham (Patricia), Christopher (Jen), David (Jackie) and Sean (Amanda). A private family service is planned. Anyone wishing to donate in her honour is asked to consider the London Children’s Museum.

Growing up on the same street in Oakville with Christine and her family are some of my very most cherished memories. Roberta was always there with a smile and a bake good for us. She actively listened to our teenage drama's and shed wisdom, insight and laughter for us to enjoy. She was a caring and thoughtful person and I feel blessed to have had her in my life during such formative years. Take care Christine and Bob - your parents have taught you well and I know you will continue to make them proud.
