Robert Samuel Long

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Robert Samuel Long at University Hospital, London, Ontario, on Thursday, June 28, 2012.  He died of complications of a blood disorder at the age of 75.  Beloved husband and best friend of Linda Long for 47 years.  Cherished and proud father of Kristin (Chris Serran) and Andrea (James White).  Devoted grandfather of Carling and Malcolm and Geneva, Connor and Brooke.  He also leaves brother-in-law Doug Musselwhite and sister-in-law June Musselwhite of Toronto.  In Ottawa, Bob was known as a dedicated and passionate public servant.  He was founding executive director of the Canadian Advanced Technology Association and was a great proponent of Canadian entrepreneurs in the field of high technology.  Later, he was the executive director of the Youth Science Fair Organization, showcasing the brightest and the best of our country’s youth.  A private family memorial service was held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario.  A celebration of his life will take place later at the RiverBend Golf Community Clubhouse in London, where Bob and Linda spent several happy years near children and grandchildren. One of Bob’s pleasures was ocean cruising and he and Linda enjoyed three wonderful cruises in 2012 alone, just returning from a transatlantic cruise a few short weeks ago.  He will be missed by all who knew him, but will live on in our hearts and memories.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated.
