Robert ‘Bob’ James Meredith

April 6, 1944 - January 12, 2024

In his 80th year, peacefully at home after a long illness. Bob leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of nearly 57 years, Carol, who cared for him lovingly and selflessly through his illness just as they had both cared for each other throughout their lives. He is deeply missed by his four children: Susan (Dave) Fish, Karen (Andrew) Blott, Heather Meredith (Chris Lemassif), and Rob (Holly) Meredith. He was the adored Grandpa to 12 grandchildren and the nephew of Dr. Ray Meredith.

Bob was born in Windsor, Ontario where he graduated from Walkerville Collegiate and the University of Windsor. He was a caring son to his parents, Alice Meredith (d. 2003) and Jim Meredith (d. 2008). He and Carol spent many years living in Mississauga before settling in London for the last 30 years. Although Bob’s pride and joy was his family and their professional and personal accomplishments, he was also a pioneer in the computer industry, eventually retiring as Director of Information Systems at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Bob was also a partner and cheerleader to Carol’s Pig Tales Books. He was a champion, life-long golfer, especially enjoying his time as a member at Hickory Ridge Golf Club. Highlights of his retirement included officially rating Ontario golf courses and developing his long-time storytelling skills into writing short stories. He also volunteered serving the veterans at Parkwood Hospital’s Iron Duke Pub. For many years, he and Carol enjoyed time on Lake Huron, first as volunteers at Forest Cliff Camp and later at their cottage near Bayfield. Bob was a member of MENSA and an avid reader, with many favourite authors. He was a keen Toronto Raptors and Blue Jays fan, although perhaps he most enjoyed cheering on and coaching his kids in a variety of sports.

Bob was an enormous encourager who was well-loved and respected by colleagues and family alike. He also had a particular fondness for dogs, and both dogs and babies always responded to his kind, soothing voice. He loved the natural world and was never happier than being at home with Carol at the house they built in the country, feeding the birds and animals as the seasons changed. Bob was a quiet soul who leaves an enormous hole in our lives and who set an example we will try to live up to. The family is very appreciative to those caregivers and caring friends who made his last years comfortable and happy.

Memorial service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. In Bob’s memory, donations may be made to Forest Cliff Camp (https://forestcliff.reachapp.co/donations/new) or to the McCormick Home Day Program (https://www.mccormickcarefoundation.ca/tribute-giving).

June 28, 2024 - Sorry I just learned of Bob's passing. I worked in the Telecom and IT Departments at Victoria Hospital. Bob was a visionary leader who was ahead of his time. I always thought he would have excelled in a future IT research lab. He pushed all of us to see the future. I still remember his presentation about this thing called the world wide web. When he left Victoria Hospital he did so with a lot of compassion and grace. I was called to a meeting before his announcement. His main focus was on someone else in the department who was hurting. With respect, sorry for your loss. David Payne. Telecom/IT, Victoria Hospital - future LHSC.
