Robert ‘Bob’ Darwin Cottingham

Known Bob and family for many years. On behalf of my family we wish you the deepest sympathy re the loss of your loved one.

I worked for Bob when I was a Constable in the early 80's and then with him as a fellow Corporal for a few years at the London OPP Detachment. He was a very capable officer and leader, and all around was a good man. He always had the backs of the members under his command which was a valuable lesson to me at that time. I enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with him at Parkwood in 2014. My sympathies to his family. Chris Lewis, OPP Commissioner, retired.

We moved into the house beside Bob & Dorothy as a young newlywed couple. We had 3 children over the next few years and we have many fond memories of time spent with them. Along with Deb, they were the best neighbours! After moving away we didn't see them very much but always shared a Christmas card and even a couple of precious visits over the years. I was so pleased to bump into Deb at Parkwood in January and had the privilege of visiting Bob at that time! What a kind and gentle man. Bob was the last surviving friend of my parent's from our Tilbury days. I am flooded with memories.

Bob was assigned as my coach officer when I joined the OPP in 1965. I learned so much from him on dealing with the public and can honestly say that any success that came my way through my career can be attributed to his excellent coaching. Nothing but the fondest memories.

I joined the OPP in 1962, and was very fortunate to be guided by Bob. He was a master at handling people,. I learned very much about policing and life in general from him. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

My sympathy goes out to the Cottingham family. Bob was aa very dear friend to Max and myself. He was a very dedicated police officer and Max was proud to have Bob as his partner on many investigations. He loved his family and I know how much you will miss him.
