Phyllis Holmes
December 8, 2017
At home in London, Ontario on December 8, 2017, Phyllis died peacefully with her family at her side. Phyllis was predeceased by Robert, her husband of 68 years, and sons Bill and Russell. A curious soul and lifelong learner, Phyllis was first in line to learn the latest technology – from microwave ovens to personal computers. She was a gifted seamstress and delighted in the challenge of creating original costumes, wedding dresses or any other unique requests from her children. Phyllis was an original member of the London Brush and Palette Club, and in her 50s, she expanded her artistic talent by attending Beal Art programs. Blessed with a sharp mind and incredible memory, she was always available to play a competitive game of Scrabble. Astoundingly resourceful, Phyllis delighted in a challenge and we have no doubt that, along with her extraordinary patience, these attributes contributed to her living into her 102nd year! Phyllis was a loving mother to Douglas (Glenda), Ken, Glen, Norman (Lillian), Carol (Stephen) Edgar, and Janet (Brad) Belchamber; special sister-in-law to Joan Couper; aunt to many nieces and nephews; grandmother to Christine, Andrea, Leaf, Stephanie, Wesley and Callin; and great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren. The family thanks neighbours Jim and Barrie, VON nurses and PSWs, and Home Instead PSWs Lori, Nancy, Nicole and Carrie who supported Phyllis’s determination to stay in her home. Appreciation to Nina White, Dr. Shewfelt, and VON nurses Stella and Ruth for their compassion and expertise during Phyllis’s final days. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation immediately following until 1:00 p.m.

Carol and I send our condolences to all of Phyllis's family and friends.
Condolences from a friend of a family member. Having lost my parents, I can feel your loss. Phyllis, your work will stand as our memory. RIP.
My heart goes out to you Janet with the loss of your Mother. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Phyllis was a remarkable woman with a huge heart. She was the only person I've ever met that really could make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I am sorry for your loss.
Phyllis was a kind soul with an easy going way. Never seeming to get flustered amongst the hectic schedule of raising such a large family and finding time for her own artistic adventures with the Brush & Palette Club. I have fond memories of staying at her home for a month as a child, when my parents travelled to Europe. Phyllis showed me how to transform an empty field tomato container into the greatest play toy ever! She was also one of my Mum's best friend's until my Mum predeceased her in January of this year. To all of the family, my condolences on the passing of your Mother. The light of the world is a littler dimmer, with the loss of your Mother. Phyllis was a wonderful person.
Dear Ken. My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. I know you will miss her terribly. I didn't know your mother but did enjoy hearing about your visits with her. My very deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Janet and the rest of the Holmes family, my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. May the peace and grace of your God be with you.
Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of your mother. Please accept my condolences.
