Philip Kelvin “Phil” West
January 23, 1952 - September 10, 2023
With deep sadness I announce the death of my soulmate, my love Phil. We had nearly 50 years together – I will cherish every one of them. Phil is survived by myself, his wife, Becky; sisters Sharon (Bill) and Bonnie (Ed); brother Peter (Shirley); nephew Philip; and dear Cousin David. He is also survived by members of Becky’s family – sisters Andrea and Sara (Paul); brothers Matthew (Heather) and David (Lucy); nieces Teagan and Jenna; and nephew Ryan (Meagan) who will mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Elvin West. Phil will be mourned by our cat Cody, and will join our beloved dog Tilly, who predeceased Phil in November 2022. There are so many friends who loved and will miss Phil, it is difficult to list them all. Please know that we love and appreciate all of you.
Born and raised in Etobicoke, Phil’s passions at a young age included baseball, hockey, golf and music. Throughout his high school days at Etobicoke Collegiate, he played trumpet in the school band. After a year at the University of Western Ontario, Phil entered the newly formed music program at Humber College to study trumpet. Realizing that he “liked to eat and buy good wine,” Phil left the music program prior to graduating and began his career in Real Estate Appraisal. He earned his A.A.C.I. (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute) in 1984. Phil began his appraisal career at Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) and continued it at Royal LePage where he remained until his retirement in 2013. His final position as President of Brookfield Real Property Services was the culmination of a long career in real estate valuations in Canada.
Golf remained a passion of Phil’s for all of his life. Thank you to the staff at The Oaks Golf and Country Club for making the last years of Phil’s life so enjoyable with your wonderful golf course.
Special thanks to Phil’s many doctors as we journeyed through his cancer diagnosis. They include Dr. Anargyros Xenocostas, Dr. Nancy Read, Dr. Diane Logan, and Dr. Nadim Wolji. In addition, a very special thank you to our family doctor, Dr. Lauren Gurland, who helped us through the final days of Phil’s life. Phil received exemplary nursing care from Carrie Ielopi and Senad Mujin. I cannot thank them enough for their compassionate support.
A Celebration of Phil’s Life will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Please bring your memories of Phil.

Becky, Sharon and family I am so sorry for your loss. As young kids we spent many times with the West family in Toronto Dundalk and St. Catharines. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and I’m so sorry I’m unable to attend the Celebration of Life for Phillip. Love Barbara.
Our hearts ache with you Becky. I know you miss Phil dearly. Phil was always kind, a rare trait these days. We are always here for you. We love you. Greg and Lynda

I was so sorry when my brother told me of Phil’s passing. We spent lots of time playing together when we were about 4 or 5 years old. We didn’t see much of each other after we moved from Aberfoyle although our parents were life-long friends. My condolences to all of you who loved him.

I was shocked to hear just recently of Phil's passing Becky. My condolence on your profound loss. In the years I served with him at Brookfield, Phil was a fantastic mentor and an inspirational leader who left an indelible mark on everyone who came into contact with him. Most importantly, he was, in his essence, an exceptional human being.
