Passed away peacefully at his home, on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Paul Michael Scapinello, of London, in his 67th year. Beloved husband of Julie Scapinello for 35 years. Loving father of Jessie (Kevin) and Justin. Adored grandfather of Keegan and Quinn. Survived by his mother, Mildred; brothers, Peter and David (Marg); and sister, Lynn. Predeceased by his father, Ido Scapinello. Best friend and brother-in-law of Steve (Lynnette). Much-loved uncle and friend to many. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where a memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Registration is required to attend the visitation. The family welcomes those unable to attend to view the service via livestream.

Please note: as per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, attendance numbers will be restricted. Please be aware that COVID-19 protocols are in place which may preclude some from being able to attend and masks are mandatory at both indoor and outdoor services. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date and the details will be shared when they are available. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Paul are asked to consider the Humane Society London & Middlesex or a charity of their choice.

I remember him chatting to me over 20 years ago when I was a new teacher. He made me feel so welcomed. He always took the time to talk to you. He spoke his mind and was always sincere. He had a great sense of humour, noticed things and gave good advice. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

Well Scappy, Another Road Trip. Our condolences to your Family and great number of friends. From the first day we met in the cafateria at GCI. in the early 70's and then sitting beside each other the next day in Classes. Road trips. picking out stones for your flower beds at our yearly reunion in Red Bay, to chaps on the phone. You continued to grow and encourage those around you to as well thru kindness and mentoring. When One can walk,cook,sit across from playing cards, and lauph for almost 50 years There will be no void in my heart, it is and will be filled with cherished memories.

I didn't know Scap well for too long but a couple years at the course was all you needed to see how good of a person he was. Extremely generous, always baking for the crew, and always had a joke to go with it. Organized quite a few Golf Tournaments that I played in high school, and always gave it a great personal touch. As a Sabre of 1987-1988 and in 6 of the Auto Shop Classes I knew Paul's working space very well. With the TVDSB TTJ interactions stories and visits to the Saunders's shop he kept that place in great shape. Teaching many the respect in workspace and keeping the future technicians inline. He like many great teachers had a story for just about anything. Pride in teaching and coaching and fire inside for when things could be done better. Julie, Jesse and Justin. I was so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. It was my good fortune to know Paul as he came into teaching as a colleague at Saunders in the early 80's. Always a great guy, tremendous with staff and students who was always there for everyone. His great sense of humour was always welcome in the staff room and on the golf course. I have so many great memories of him. I was also fortunate to have him as a parent in the community as a VP at Oakridge and Saunders. He was always there for you, Jesse and Justin, I know you have so many great memories of your growing up with 'dad in the stands'. RIP Paul. Hey Scappy, I think Jock summed it up best 'Hespeler lost a favourite son". As a close friend for over 50 years, the memories are endless. From when we first met when all you Hespelerites were transplanted from PHS to GaltCI&VS and Grade 10 brought a whole new batch of friends to us Galt people. I have been fortunate to enjoy your infectious sense of humour and ribbing ever since. And to be included along with yourself in the 'Group of Seven' high school buds who would have celebrated our 46th year last fall had it not been for COVID. As I write this, a vision in my memory has you wearing that baseball helmet with the pink flamingo glued to the top and you snickering something at Knob. Priceless memories my dear friend! My deepest condolences to you Julie, Justin, Jessie & family. Paul will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Scap was always the most friendly and encouraging shop teachers and even though I was never directly under his tutelage, he would always come next door to auto-body and talk to us or, talk some smack about us. Julie, Jessie and Justin. We are so sorry to hear of this tragic loss. From the early days of the Wheatley teacher's hockey team, where Paul led us as the "coach" it became very apparent that Scap was someone you wanted to be around. It was no small feat to guide this crew! So many fond memories! Paul's dedication to his students and his athletes, was second to none. He was extremely proud of his Sabre golf teams and through his leadership, were often the cream of the crop. Our teams often enjoyed competing with each other. Scap was always the first to volunteer to assist with the organization of golf events for all high school golfers, This involvement continued on in his retirement. He was solely responsible for resurrecting the spring championships and when things return to normal, this event will continue. I will never forget his friendship. We have lost a good one. Take care of yourselves, our prayers are with you.

Scap, I was always grateful for those "welcoming" elbows on the basketball court, the perceptive description of the weak groundout to short on the diamond but especially, thank you, for your sensitive comments on the first tee at Thames, "If you sucked your gut in, you'd have a better chance of hitting the ball." Paul was one of those people you wanted be around. He was upbeat, funny and irreverent. That he did not take himself too seriously was one of his most endearing qualities. By being willing to laugh at himself, he was able to laugh with others. To know Paul was to like him. I miss him already.

The Lerner family is heartbroken to hear of Paul's passing. A beloved husband, a supporter father, a loving grandfather, a respected teacher and a friend of all. His legacy is obvious in the tributes to his passing. The mark a teacher leaves with his students is the measure of the man. It is obvious that Paul mentored many who enjoy success today. As Heather's office mate, he made coming to work a pleasure. A day did not pass without bringing a smile to her face. Next to his family, his greatest love was golf. Instead of wearing it on his sleeve it was on the side of his van! We are sure that he has already joined a foursome and is likely playing 36 a day. May all his shot be on the fairway and putts in the hole. We hope the family has fond memories of happy times together for support during this difficult time. You are all in our prayers. Julie, Jessie, and Justin, I still cannot believe that this is true. I would not have enough ink in 20 pens to write down and express what Paul meant to myself and to so many others. We have lost a true icon in the golf community and education community. Paul was one of a kind indeed. Paul and I coached the Sabres golf team for 17 years and even after retirement I kept Paul involved with the team because I knew how much it meant to him to be out and having fun with the students and to share some laughs. We always had a great time coaching and carrying on. So many great memories over the years that I will cherish forever. One of his favorite lines after his playing companions would hit a bad shot was " I see you've read my book, page 54 "how not to hit a 5 iron" I will always remember our times together and will miss Paul dearly, and remember his lighthearted approach to most everything . Paul was always an vibrant supporter of the Transportation Maintenance & Technology Association of London or as we are known in the industry as the TMTA. He was passionate about helping students grow into trained technicians and loved working with our association to assist students and apprenticeship. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of our group and was never shy to show his humour and give a ribbing to his friends. He also had a soft heart and being our leader of the Health and Care committee meant that he was the direct contact of membership when it came to sharing health issues. He felt that just sharing some of the negative health problems had to change, so he started calling his committee "Health, Care and Happiness". He made a point of asking the membership at every opportunity to share any happy news events, so he could pass that on. Well Paul, we want you to know that the TMTA committee that you enjoyed volunteering for will forever be called "Health, Care and Happiness". We love you Paul and will miss you terribly. My deepest condolscences to Julie and your two wonderful children-Jessie and Justin. Paul was so much a part of my teaching career - larger than life and certainly much taller than me. Although we didn't always agree on how to lead the department I knew his heart was in the right place and after some lively conversations we made decisions that were good for the students and the teachers.
