~ Bill Schneider

I remember him chatting to me over 20 years ago when I was a new teacher. He made me feel so welcomed. He always took the time to talk to you. He spoke his mind and was always sincere. He had a great sense of humour, noticed things and gave good advice. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

~ Lisa Pryce - Arciszewski

Road trips. picking out stones for your flower beds at our yearly reunion in Red Bay, to chaps on the phone. You continued to grow and encourage those around you to as well thru kindness and mentoring. When One can walk, cook, sit across from playing cards, and lauph for almost 50 years There will be no void in my heart, it is and will be filled with cherished memories.

~ Phil Gregory and Family

I didn't know Scap well for too long but a couple years at the course was all you needed to see how good of a person he was. Extremely generous, always baking for the crew, and always had a joke to go with it. Organized quite a few Golf Tournaments that I played in high school, and always gave it a great personal touch. Amazing guy, gone too soon, condolences to the family! Rob

~ Rob Fleming

Julie and family, so sorry to hear about Paul. I have fond memories from when I dog sat for you ages ago. In the years that followed, Paul was always so welcoming when we met up at school golf tournaments, constantly giving me updates of you and your children. He will be deeply missed by so many. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

~ Theresa

Our hearts will always be with the Scapinello family. We are all greatly saddened by Paul's passing. Paul was a larger than life character who had a positive impact on everyone and everything he touched. Rest in peace Paul. Until we meet again...

To Millie and Family, Our deepest Sympathies. It was very sad news to hear of Paul's passing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May he Rest In Peace

~ Howard & Vicki McPhail

Truly genuine, and a real gentleman. Paul was always consistent -- a kind, giving and humorous individual who wanted folks to feel welcome and did his best so that everyone could enjoy their day. The world needs more Pauls, and like countless others, I'm thankful I was able to spend some time with him at the course. My thoughts and condolences go out to his family and close friends.

~ Darren Chapman

As a Sabre of 1987-1988 and in 6 of the Auto Shop Classes I knew Paul's working space very well. With the TVDSB TTJ interactions stories and visits to the Saunders's shop he kept that place in great shape. Teaching many the respect in workspace and keeping the future technicians inline. He like many great teachers had a story for just about anything. Pride in teaching and coaching and fire inside for when things could be done better. God Speed Paul and may you have some great golf games on the tops of the clouds.

~ James Grant

Julie, Jesse and Justin. I was so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. It was my good fortune to know Paul as he came into teaching as a colleague at Saunders in the early 80's. Always a great guy, tremendous with staff and students who was always there for everyone. His great sense of humour was always welcome in the staff room and on the golf course. I have so many great memories of him. I was also fortunate to have him as a parent in the community as a VP at Oakridge and Saunders. He was always there for you, Jesse and Justin, I know you have so many great memories of your growing up with 'dad in the stands'. RIP Paul. I will think of you every time I am fortunate enough to 'tee it up' in the future.

~ Dennis Lunau

Julie, Jesse and Justin We have had many good times together . Paul was a respected teacher , great coach and he loved you all so much! You are in our thoughts and prayers

~ Jackie and Bob

Hey Scappy, I think Jock summed it up best 'Hespeler lost a favourite son". As a close friend for over 50 years, the memories are endless. From when we first met when all you Hespelerites were transplanted from PHS to GaltCI&VS and Grade 10 brought a whole new batch of friends to us Galt people. I have been fortunate to enjoy your infectious sense of humour and ribbing ever since. And to be included along with yourself in the 'Group of Seven' high school buds who would have celebrated our 46th year last fall had it not been for COVID. As I write this, a vision in my memory has you wearing that baseball helmet with the pink flamingo glued to the top and you snickering something at Knob. Priceless memories my dear friend! My deepest condolences to you Julie, Justin, Jessie & family. Paul will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

~ DOUG PURDY

Julie and family - we are so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He taught both of our sons at Saunders. He was a great guy and you will miss him! Our thoughts are with you.

You left a lasting memory to all those at Saunders S.S. and the TVDSB. Fond memories of our times on the golf course and at the rink especially our time in Wheatley leading us to victory. My thoughts are with you as you play the fairways in heaven.

~ Ken Venhuizen

Julie and family, I played sports with and against Paul for many years. He was a fun-loving friend who was a pleasure to be around. My golf group will miss Scap's witty and mocking comments as he sent us off the first tee at Thames. Please accept my deepest condolences. Graham

~ Graham Hathoe

What terrible news to receive that one of the best and most influential teachers that were a part of your life has passed away. Scap was always the most friendly and encouraging shop teachers and even though I was never directly under his tutelage, he would always come next door to auto-body and talk to us or, talk some smack about us. You will be missed by all the people who's lives you touched.

~ ANDREW NUYTEN

Julie and family our deepest condolences on Paul's passing I was proud to be his cousin love Peter and Gina Macaulay

~ Peter and Gina Macaulay

~ Natasha uran-Mitreski

My condolences to Julie, Jessie and Justin on this huge loss. Scap was a great person who was loved by his students and the athletes he coached and he will be deeply missed. Peace.

~ Paul Vejvoda

Julie, Jessie and Justin. We are so sorry to hear of this tragic loss. From the early days of the Wheatley teacher's hockey team, where Paul led us as the "coach" it became very apparent that Scap was someone you wanted to be around. It was no small feat to guide this crew! So many fond memories! Paul's dedication to his students and his athletes, was second to none. He was extremely proud of his Sabre golf teams and through his leadership, were often the cream of the crop. Our teams often enjoyed competing with each other. Scap was always the first to volunteer to assist with the organization of golf events for all high school golfers, This involvement continued on in his retirement. He was solely responsible for resurrecting the spring championships and when things return to normal, this event will continue. I will never forget his friendship. We have lost a good one. Take care of yourselves, our prayers are with you.

~ Tim and Heather Orr

Scap, I was always grateful for those "welcoming" elbows on the basketball court, the perceptive description of the weak groundout to short on the diamond but especially, thank you, for your sensitive comments on the first tee at Thames, "If you sucked your gut in, you'd have a better chance of hitting the ball." I miss you, pal.

~ Ted Grys

Paul was one of those people you wanted be around. He was upbeat, funny and irreverent. That he did not take himself too seriously was one of his most endearing qualities. By being willing to laugh at himself, he was able to laugh with others. To know Paul was to like him. I miss him already.

~ Sandy Oswick and Laurie Kay

The Lerner family is heartbroken to hear of Paul's passing. A beloved husband, a supporter father, a loving grandfather, a respected teacher and a friend of all. His legacy is obvious in the tributes to his passing. The mark a teacher leaves with his students is the measure of the man. It is obvious that Paul mentored many who enjoy success today. As Heather's office mate, he made coming to work a pleasure. A day did not pass without bringing a smile to her face. Next to his family, his greatest love was golf. Instead of wearing it on his sleeve it was on the side of his van! We are sure that he has already joined a foursome and is likely playing 36 a day. May all his shot be on the fairway and putts in the hole. We hope the family has fond memories of happy times together for support during this difficult time. You are all in our prayers. May he rest in peace.

~ Michael Lerner and Heather Lerner

Julie, Jessie, and Justin, I still cannot believe that this is true. I would not have enough ink in 20 pens to write down and express what Paul meant to myself and to so many others. We have lost a true icon in the golf community and education community. Paul was one of a kind indeed. Paul and I coached the Sabres golf team for 17 years and even after retirement I kept Paul involved with the team because I knew how much it meant to him to be out and having fun with the students and to share some laughs. We always had a great time coaching and carrying on. So many great memories over the years that I will cherish forever. One of his favorite lines after his playing companions would hit a bad shot was " I see you've read my book, page 54 "how not to hit a 5 iron" I will always remember our times together and will miss Paul dearly, and remember his lighthearted approach to most everything . He always liked to make people laugh about something every day. Know that you are in our hearts and prayers during this most difficult time, with deepest sympathy, Bill and Jane, RIP Paul (Scap)

~ Bill and Jane Gadd

So sad to see you leave us. 50 years of memories that will be with us forever. Love to your family. Scap will always be part of me and those who knew him well.

~ Andy & Barb Pulling

Paul was always an vibrant supporter of the Transportation Maintenance & Technology Association of London or as we are known in the industry as the TMTA. He was passionate about helping students grow into trained technicians and loved working with our association to assist students and apprenticeship. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of our group and was never shy to show his humour and give a ribbing to his friends. He also had a soft heart and being our leader of the Health and Care committee meant that he was the direct contact of membership when it came to sharing health issues. He felt that just sharing some of the negative health problems had to change, so he started calling his committee "Health, Care and Happiness". He made a point of asking the membership at every opportunity to share any happy news events, so he could pass that on. Well Paul, we want you to know that the TMTA committee that you enjoyed volunteering for will forever be called "Health, Care and Happiness". We love you Paul and will miss you terribly. TMTA President Ron Kelly

~ TMTA London

My deepest condolscences to Julie and your two wonderful children-Jessie and Justin. Paul was so much a part of my teaching career - larger than life and certainly much taller than me. Although we didn't always agree on how to lead the department I knew his heart was in the right place and after some lively conversations we made decisions that were good for the students and the teachers. I will miss Paul and his sense of humour, his generosity, his support, his passion for teaching and his willingness to touch all those around him. He certainly made my time at Saunders very special. Hugs to all of you.

~ Karin Lawrence

Hespeler lost a favorite son this week. He was one of a kind.A classmate, teammate and true friend. We lost track of each other starting in early 80's. No cells, email, texting back then but through a golf tournament in town known as Hespeler's Finest we reconnected. It was a great day to get back together with old pals, hit a golf ball around, tell some lies and have a boatload of laughsThinking of Scappy always put a big smile on my face.Scappy, Knobby,Bernie and myself will never have a fourth like you.You weren't the best by any means nor were we but you played for all the right reasons. Just a treat to be around. Have a feeling when you left us you went straight to a basketball court, ball field or a golf course.I'll miss you pal. Here's an old Irish Limerick from a Canadian Scotsman. There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea,but the best ships are friendships, may they always be.All the best to the Scap family from Hespeler. Sincerest condolences. An absolute legend at Saunders, Scap was always up for a "hello" before class, and always had a great story to tell! We are heartbroken & cannot imagine the pain you are feeling. In my whole 34 year teaching career at Saunders I never heard anyone say a bad word about Paul. The students adored him & our staff loved him. He truly was a special teacher who cared deeply, was always willing to help in any capacity & his wonderful sense of humour was always welcome as was his honest opinion on things. Scap's contribution to Saunders goes beyond his coaching & teaching. People like him made Saunders the amazing school it is & I thank him for that & am so thankful for knowing him. I will always treasure my conversations with him & know that Julie, Jess, Justin & family will be there for each other & support each other during this heartbreaking time. Rest In Peace Paul... you were one of a kind! Jan Marcus & Family

I was very sad to hear of Paul's passing. He was a great guy. I had the good fortune to get to know Paul through high school golf. His passion for the game and dedication to coaching and convening events will be missed by the high school golf community. I will miss his laugh, his presence and his sense of humour. My sincerest condolences to his family on their loss.

Dear Julie and family, We are so sad to hear of Scap's passing. He was always a pleasure to work with and we enjoyed running into him after his retirement as we would have a nice chat. He beamed with pride talking about his family. We wish you comfort as this most difficult time. Sincerely, Amy and Bill

My condolences on Paul aka Scap's passing. I had the good fortune of meeting Scap as a fellow high school golf coach. Our respective teams sparred in many matches and tournaments. I played many rounds with Scap. He was a great guy and helped me out a few times when I needed it. He will be missed on the links around London.

So sorry to hear about Paul's passing. Thanks, Scap, for all your kindnesses to me at Saunders, especially when I was just getting started as a teacher.

For many years, Paul's smiling face greeted my High School golf teams at events he ran or was coaching at. When I asked if I could bring a Special Olympics Team for the first time to his event, he was so excited to have them. From that point on, we always brought a Special Olympics team to the events and Paul was always there to great them and make sure they were well looked after. He helped make them feel welcomed and valued. Our Arthur Voaden Viking Teams will miss him and send his family and friends our condolences.
