Paul Materiuk
November 23, 2021
Suddenly, following a game of hockey with friends, on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the age of 41. Beloved son of Patricia and Jim. Adored brother of David (Julie) and Kathleen (Dany). Cherished uncle of Juliet and Claire. Best friend of his Chocolate Lab, Ash. Treasured nephew of Uncle Paul. Paul will be deeply missed by extended family members, friends, the Owen Sound community, Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services, and his brothers and sisters in arms of the Canadian Armed Forces. The familiar name in the obituaries, the dimpled grin, and then to learn it was your dear son, Paul. You spoke so proudly of your family, Jim, during those brief conversations we had while you trimmed our apple trees for those many years some years ago. Thank you for the privilege of sharing in Paul's funeral and learning about your wonderful son. My deepest condolences to you and Pat and your family during this very sorrowful time.
My sincerest condolences to Paul's family and friends. I am so blessed to have crossed paths with Paul in the Canadian Armed Forces. What a wonderful person who was always positively spirited and was a pleasure to both work and socialize with. Although I will miss him very much, he will not be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.

My sincere condolences to the family. I was very saddened to hear the news about Pauls passing. I met Paul in the the army (RCR) and we were very good friends. We spent many weekends together and a few trips. I will never forget our trip to Cape Breton and Boston, great times and great friends. Paul and I also travelled to France for the unknown solider and Paul and I were roommates. I have some great photos of us that I would gladly pass on to you. When I was posted to Halifax, I was glad to reconnect with Paul. He was the first person I contacted with when I landed out east. I am so sorry for your loss. I took lots of photos of our time in the army and can send them to you. He was a great friend. John

Hi Dave. So sorry for your loss. Paul will be missed by many. I met Paul over 20 years ago playing ball in London. Then as co-workers at Davey tree. He had a way about him the that made everyone around happier. He was my little brother. I’m 7-8 years older but we just got along in the tree industry and on the bench at ball. In the last few years we didn’t spend a lot of time together. A few rounds of golf and a dinner. But it was quality time that I got to spend with him. He will truly be missed. Gone too soon. I have a video of him on the golf course. I will send it to you. This is how he will be remembered laughing and having fun.

The first time I met you was at Dany and Kathleen's wedding 5 years ago. You appeared in a light blue suit, reserved, quiet and handsome with you dimples. Since then, I saw you again at every family event. You were there for your nieces birthdays, baptisms, Thanksgiving dinners etc. I saw your best smiles when carrying Claire or Juliet, holding their little hand in yours. I wish you were still amongst us, but you must've accomplished your destiny down on earth already. A hero you were to many and my little pinky tells me you did most good deeds behind the scenes, far away from the attention. I think there was a choir of Angels and trumpets sound as a hero confidently marched in Heaven's Gate with a beautiful and humble soul. Finally rest in Peace Paul.
To Pat Materiuk and all of your family, I am deeply saddened at your sudden loss. May God provide you some measure of solace in your time of grief.
It’s hard to know or even begin to understand why we go when we go… Paul’s passing is a harsh reminder that life is so short and so precious. My heart aches for you Pat, Jim, Kat, Dave. I didn’t know Paul as well as I wish I had and I am saddened by knowing that I only scratched the surface when he was here. The times we’ve spent with Paul are only happy memories and his kindness, warmth, and gentle nature were to me his most marked traits. Rest In Peace Paul, we will miss you.
To the Materiuk family, friends, and colleagues. My deepest condolences on Paul's passing. I am so saddened, and can't imagine how this is for you. Paul was such a great guy, and loved by so many. He will be missed dearly.
I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Paul’s family during this heartbreaking time. I had the honour to serve in the CF with Paul and the absolute joy to be able to call him my friend. Always greeted with a smile Paul was a person who made you feel better the moment you started talking with him. You will be missed Paul, gone but never forgotten.
Dearest Pat, Jim, David, and Kathleen. We are all shocked and saddened by the loss of Paul. We remember Paul as a leader and protector among all the young children in your care when Rachel, Laura and Andrew were part of your family life for the before and after school hours. Paul clearly continued to be a young man devoted to caring for others, and a leader. He will be missed by his fire family, his friends and above all missed by you. May God bless you and fold you all into His arms as you journey down this very difficult road. Kim and Barb Stinson

Dear Jim and Pat and family My sincere condolences on the loss of your dear son Paul. I can't even imagine the depth of your grief at this time but I pray that you will feel God's peace and comfort in the sad days of your journey ahead without him. The description of his volunteer activities and life in his obit give an indication of what a wonderful life of service and generosity he chose for himself. He will be missed by so many but mostly by you. Sending love and prayer to you all
