Michael ‘Mike’ Walker

June 24, 2020

Our much loved son, Michael ‘Mike’ Walker, passed away in our arms on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at LHSC – Victoria Hospital. Mike was born to us, Glenn and Elizabeth ‘Bette’ (née Brandon) Walker on May 2, 1962, in Toronto. He will be deeply missed by his brother Dan (Joan); nephew Curtis Walker; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins, most of whom live in Southwestern Ontario. A tree has been planted for Uncle Mike. Mike lived with us after being severely injured in an accident four years ago. He struggled through his injuries with a brave and determined attitude, recovering his ability to do some of his favourite things – walking, travelling by bus, train or aircraft to explore interesting cities. A summer afternoon walking in Grand Bend, with lunch at The Growling Gator, was always a special treat. He loved music, attending concerts and festivals in Victoria Park when he was able. Mike said that he had a very good life and that spending the last four years of his life with us, his parents, was a “special gift”. It was an incredible gift for us, too. Many thanks to family and friends for gifts of food, flowers and comforting messages. Thanks also to the Victoria Hospital Palliative medical team who helped to ease Mike’s last days. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family memorial for Mike at a later date. If you wish to make a donation in Mike’s memory, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Hospice – London or a charity of your choice.
