In Loving Memory of Mervyn “Merv” Mitchell

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 89. Merv was a devoted husband to Kathleen Mitchell (née Maier), the love of his life, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Since her passing in 2019, Merv longed to be reunited with his true love, and now they are together once more. Their life was a beautiful journey of love, shared passions, and cherished memories. Whether attending sporting events, travelling to England, or spending peaceful days at the beach, Kathleen and Merv embraced every moment with joy and companionship.   

A true sports enthusiast, Merv’s heart belonged to his favourite teams: the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Dallas Cowboys and the CFL.  Whether cheering from the stands or his living room, he was always a passionate and dedicated fan. Beyond sports, Merv had a deep love for politics and engaged in discussions that reflected his sharp mind and keen interest in the world around him.

Merv’s faith was an integral part of his life. A devoted Christian, he walked through life with unwavering belief and kindness, finding strength in his relationship with God. He lived by his values, embracing love, integrity, and generosity in all that he did.

Merv’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love and kindness lives on. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his nieces and nephews.

A visitation will take place at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Ken Taylor.

Cremation has taken place, and Merv’s final resting place will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date.  For those wishing to donate in memory of Merv, donations can be made to the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre.

As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Merv is reunited with Kathleen, watching over us with love. In his own words, he leaves us with a simple, heartfelt blessing:
