Mauri Kalevi Myllykangas

March 8, 1948 - November 20, 2024

Surrounded by family, Mauri passed away quietly after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the age of 76.

Mauri is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue; sisters: Hely (Ken) Keen, Eila (Mike) Kelly and Leena (Bernie) Philip, and their families; sisters-in-law: Jackie (Tom; deceased) Whitfield, Gerry Gowland (Tim Thorne; deceased), Sharon Bryan, Christine Robertson (Todd Roelens), and their families. Predeceased by his parents, Martti and Rauha; sisters, Marja Lisa Poulin and Eila Podolski; and sister-in-law, Patti Collins.

Born in Finland, his family immigrated to Canada when he was four years old, settling in Sudbury, Ontario. He attended Queens University, attaining his Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees. Directly after university, Mauri went to work for Ford Motor Company of Canada, which was what he always wanted to do. Mauri worked for Ford for 30 years, during which time he had the opportunity to work in all facets of the business, from the plant, to marketing and finance. After a fully rounded career, he became the Vice President of Finance. After many years, he took the opportunity to retire early, to enjoy his time between the U.S. for the winter, and Canada in the summer. In retirement, he settled with his wife Sue in a London, Ontario golf course community, where they met new friends and had great times, both on and off the golf course. Mauri was happiest when he could make others laugh. His smile was infectious and he brought so much joy into the lives of those around him.

Special thanks to the staff at Elmwood Long Term Care home for their caring and support.

Deepest sympathies on Mauri's passing. Time spent working or socially with Mauri will always be remembered fondly. His sense of humour and desire to make others comfortable was constant and he left this world a much better place. Sincerest wishes to Sue and family.

I am going to miss my uncle Mauri greatly. I always looked forward to spending time with him at camp as a kid. He was the king of skipping stones, fishing and the sauna. His sense of humour was legendary. A friend of mine who used to work at the Burlington Golf and Country Club couldn’t believe I was the nephew of Crazy Mauri. He left an amazing impression every where he went. Rest in peace Uncle Mauri.

Though it has been years since I last saw Mauri, my warm memories remain alive. They took me in during a dark time. Mauri's smile and laugh come to mind every time I think of the time on Mississauga Rd. My sincere condolences to Sue and the Myllykangas family.

Mauri was my big brother. The only boy of six kids. I always looked up to him, loved spending time with him as did our boys. They enjoyed time spent with uncle Mauri especially at camp. I especially remember Mauri taking the boys into the woods to find the right branches for him to whittle whistles for them. Lots of laughter shared! Mom and dad and all of us were so proud of his accomplishments at university and his career with Ford of Canada. Ken and I will miss him sincerely but know that he is at rest. Sue our hearts are with you and will always be there for you! Hely and Ken

Sue My heartfelt condolences to you. It was just a couple weeks ago that we talked at Riverbend. Mauri always had that captivating smile when we met. We remember fondly visiting you both in The Villages and golfing together. It has been a long uphill fight and now that he is in peace with the Lord may you find the time to find peace in your own life My deepest sympathies Terry Lyng starter at Riverbend

I smile when I think of Mauri for all the right reasons, as noted here by so many others. My only reservation is that violently out of balance golf swing that made my back hurt just watching it. However, as with everything else he did, he made it work through his sheer drive and will to win. Mauri makes my Ford of Canada "Heroes List" for his past contributions and charming manner. Heartfelt condolences to Sue and the families for this tragic loss.

Mauri was one of the finest people I had the pleasure of working with in Central Office. Always cool under pressure, with a calm, thoughtful approach to any situation and always with that infectious smile. Mauri buddy, looking forward to a round with you on that great golf course in the sky.

It was with great sadness that the Ford of Canada Finance team heard of Mauri's passing. Many of us remember him well from our early careers and enjoyed working with him. He set a great example for all of us. Please accept our condolences. Kirby Alguire VP Finance, Ford of Canada

Dear Sue and family, Mauri and I became friends during our work life. I always felt he met and exceeded what most would hope they would enjoy in a close working relationship. This extended after retirement here in Riverbend. Christmas dinner and at parties in our home with neighbours, we could count on Mauri to always add to the humour. We also enjoyed the many golf games and dinners 'down south' with you both; Mauri had a unique way of swinging, LOL, and also long range putting. Many happy memories! Take consolation that he had many friends who cared for him, enjoyed his wonky sense of humour, his humility and gentleness. Considering his long illness you know that now he's at peace. I wish peace for you as well in time. Carole Sewell
