Dear Sue, Frank and Family, We are so very sorry to hear of the devastating loss of your son, Mathew. No words could possibly say anything of comfort. You are in our thoughts and prayers, Mike & Leza Fiddick
When I met Matt during my sister Andrea’s birthday weekend, I fell instantly in love with his sweet disposition. Since that weekend, Andrea and I raved about him as the best human ever. I went to school with Sarah and Mike, and am a close family friend to Sam. I know how truly important Matt was to everyone. I cannot put into words how deeply sorry and saddened I am by this loss. I am holding the DeCicco and Arcese family in my heart during this time, and am keeping Matt’s beautiful spirit in my thoughts and prayers.

The DeCicco family, Samantha and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Matt, I am so sorry for your loss. Matt was the type of person that everyone should strive to be. During my toughest times in our first year at McMaster he would always text me to hangout and bring me out of a hole. Not only was he an amazing person but an amazing athlete. From our battles against each other on the football field in high school, to our battles with each other playing for Junior Mustangs; his skills were unmatched. Your kindness will live on through the hearts of everyone you touched.

His older brother, Mike, was one of my best friends in high school. I often saw him at the gym, and always told him how great it was to hear he was such a great football player. Following in his older brothers foot steps. Entire family is in my thoughts and prayers, may he Rest In Peace.
My heart breaks to hear this news. My prayers and deepest sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Matt. I remember Matt from Somerset as a very kind person, great at math, and friends with everyone. Gone too soon. Rest in the sweetest of peace.
Dearest Frank, Sue, Michael and Sarah, It is with our deepest sympathy that we share in your loss of your son Matthew. I will always remember him as being a kind, caring, loving, athletic and great kid. As his soccer coach and a hockey and soccer parent that shared in our boys athleticism, friendships, ups and downs and camaraderie through all these years, I remember how we all cherished these times we spent together on and away from the playing surfaces. Most importantly, it was these experiences that we shared that brought us all closely together and fueled our friendships with our boys and our families. Matthew's smile, contagious laugh, heart of gold, kindness, talents and gifts will always be forever imprinted in our hearts. We will miss him deeply!!! God Bless your family and always know that we love you all! Sincerely, Kim, Michele, Courtney, Tanner and Austin Kimbark The Kimbark Family
It was a pleasure to battle against Matty over the years. It was much easier once he became my teammate and I didn’t have to worry about his wicked hockey skills. Whenever I saw Matty, I was blown away by his compassion, generosity, and a laugh that could make the whole group smile. Thinking about the DeCicco family, and all his friends.
Dear Sue, Frank, Michael and Sarah. My heart breaks for your loss. I remember Matt with that cheeky smile and a kind loving heart. He was always thinking of others before himself. Having taught the entire DeCicco family, Matt became Baby Cheeks, in sports, and in the class. Michael and Sarah, I am sending you hugs and my prayers as you navigate this difficult time. Sue and Frank, I send you the strength to carry on. With all my love, Kathy Russell

Frank and Sue, So heartbroken to learn of Matthew’s passing. The tributes touching on his athletic prowess, kindness and loyalty show such breadth of character. Our interaction with Matthew was not as a star athlete but as an earnest, modest young man beginning his career. Such a likeable person and representative of your family. We are so very sorry for this terrible loss. Sandy and Nicole
Frank, Sue, Michael, Sarah and Sam - Sending you my deepest condolences. I feel very fortunate to have been Cheeks' teammate and will always remember his determination and leadership at such a young age. My thoughts are with you all.

I’m so sorry to hear about Matt’s unexpected loss. Sending my deepest condolences to the DeCicco family at this time. Matt was such a caring, kind and sweet human being. My sincerest condolences to the entire DeCicco and Arcese family. I’m so sorry for your loss… I’m thankful to have shared the field with Matt during his time at Mac. Cheeks was loved by every single player in our locker room. A naturally gifted athlete (I’ll never forget those hands…size, softness, and strength like I’ve never seen) with a true passion for the game. I always admired his willingness to lay out for any football, and put his body on the line for his teammates on every single play. He fought and persevered through injury like no other. An incredible teammate but an even better person… He treated every single one of us like a brother. Cheeks, you’ll be missed.

My condolences to the DeCicco family, I’m sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of playing alongside Matt at McMaster, he was an incredible athlete and an even better friend. Matt could light up a room with his humour, and he was an extremely kind soul. It was evident the first time we met that we were going to enjoy each others company. Matt would have done anything for his brothers at McMaster. I will continue to hold onto the memories we shared together. You will be missed. Sending my love to the friends and family who were fortunate enough to have Matt in their lives.

Dear Sue, Frank, Michael and Sarah…..my heart goes out to you all and the rest of your family. The loss of a child and a brother is devastating and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember Matt as a kind and caring child at Byron Somerset who had lots of friends. May your memories of Matt sustain you and give you comfort as you navigate this new reality.
Sue, Frank, Mike and Sarah. I was so very sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. I will always remember Matt as a kind, caring, and supportive student and friend. It was a pleasure to watch Matt grow as he followed in the footsteps of Mike and Sarah throughout the halls of Byron Somerset. Although quiet and often shy he never hesitated to offer his assistance with the Special Needs Student's within our school. That speaks volumes about Matt’s character, such a wonderful young man with a wonderful family. Please know at this time that my thoughts and prayers are with you, Samantha, and your extended families as you navigate through this unbearable time. Mrs. Murray
Dear Sue & Frank, I was so very sad to see the passing of your son, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
My condolences and support to the DeCicco family. Matt was truly an amazing person whose presence and smile always lifted those around him. The best teammate you could ever hope to be around and an even better man. Although he is gone much too early, he will live on forever in the hearts and memories of those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. It's not goodbye , it's see you later.
My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the DeCicco family and Samantha. It was such a joy to coach Matt at McMaster; a great football player and better person. I truly enjoyed the time we spent together during those years. I look back fondly of us laughing over and discussing our shared love of various ESPN podcasts. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Matt's family and friends during this difficult time.

Dear Matt, I'm going to miss you a lot. You were an inspirational teammate and caring friend. I am a better man today because of the times we shared together, in school and in football practice. I've always been so proud to be your teammate and I will never forget the times we shared in competition. I remember when you broke your wrist and still came to every football practice, throwing and catching better than most people on the team even with your one hand. Your spirit will live on forever through the people who were lucky to have known you. I will be thinking and praying that you find peace and become an angel for your family. Roll flaMes <3
DeCicco Family, I am very sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Matt was smart, hardworking, thoughtful and one of the best athletes I have ever had the pleasure of watching and playing with. While in high school and on the football field, Matt was always one of the best players/athletes who was a leader and looked up to by many. When at McMaster and I was told that the program was recruiting Matt, I was ecstatic because not only were they getting a quality football player, but they were getting an even better person. Matt, you were a warrior, you persevered through injury where most would have walked away and proceeded to work harder than anyone else to overcome that. It is a true testament to Matt and how much of fierce competitor he was. Cheeks, you left a lasting impression wherever you went and I am proud to say I shared the field with you for all those years. I know you made many brothers while at Mac and we look forward to singing the Mac fight song with you again someday ; macmen forever. Frank, Sue, Michael, Sarah and Sam... Once again, I am so sorry for your loss but I am thinking of you all and will cherish the memories of Matt.
Frank, Sue, Michael and Sarah. Katie let us know about your unimaginable loss. We are both sitting here heartbroken for all of you. May your wonderful memories of the time you had with Matthew keep you strong and help you through this most difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m really going to miss you Cheeks. You were an outstanding friend and a wonderful teammate over the years. Whether we played football together all of these years at STA or ran track together and made it to WOSSA as a relay team, I’ll never forget the great memories we shared as team mates in the moment or winning games/races. I still remember us being the dream relay team with Mike Frizzel and Jack Shelley alongside us. Throughout all of this, I’ve caught myself looking back all week long at our team photos from when we won the city championship back in 2012 and I always remembered the instrumental role you played in that game and season. I really wish we could do that all over again. Although you’re gone buddy, I’ll never forget you and the wonderful memories we had. I really wish we could create more together as friends and teammates but I know that day will come sometime in the future when all the boys are united once more. I love you brother. May you find peace now and please watch over Sam, Mike, Sarah, Frank, and Sue. We’ll all be here to support your family, just like you did for these past years. Roll flames
