Mary Rebecca (née Petherick) Hamacher

July 6, 2020

November 5, 1924 ~ July 6, 2020

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our beautiful and loving mother, peacefully at home on Monday, July 6, 2020, at the age of 95. Mom was born in London and raised in Lobo Township. She faced many challenges growing up during the Great Depression. Combined with her resilience and strong work ethic, she tackled life’s challenges head on. Beloved wife of the late Leon Marsh Hamacher (1997), born in Coldstream.  Cherished and loving mother and mother-in-law of Betty Eichenberger and her husband Ron, of London; and Sandra Francis and her husband Jim, of Fitzroy Harbour. Dear grandmother of Kathy (Keith) Boyes, of Mississauga, and Jennifer Francis, of Kanata. Great-grandmother of Steven Boyes (Alannah), and great-great-grandmother of Lilly Grace Mary Boyes, of Milton. Predeceased by loving parents, William and Winnifred Petherick; sister Anne McQueen; and brother Edgar Petherick. Mom was the last of her family. Remembered and sadly missed by sisters-in-law Carolyn Jamieson, of Thedford, and Betty Hamacher, of Strathroy. Sadly missed and loved by several nieces and nephews. Mom cared deeply for her family and the Eichenberger clan and enjoyed many joyful family dinners and get-togethers and will be sorely missed by them. Mom retired from Bell Canada after 25 happy years. Mom and Dad retired to Bayfield. Mom was artistic and always had an eye for beauty and was a passionate gardener and spent many hours nurturing her gardens. She was a wonderful and talented cook, turning out many delicious dishes. Mother will be greatly missed by her wonderful, caring friends at 500 Proudfoot, for her many kindnesses and her sense of humour. They enjoyed many games of cards and dominoes. She will also be missed by her many friends at Kiwanis Seniors’ Community Centre and Meals on Wheels London luncheons. Mom was fun to be around and attracted many friends. She brought deep affection, love, grace and humour to the lives of her family and friends. She will be long remembered and sadly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Susan McNair, Heather Atyeo and team at St. Joseph’s Family Medical Centre, and Meadow and team at the LHSC – IV Therapy Clinic for their loving compassion and gentle kindness to our mother. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.

Dear Betty, Ron and family: Your loss is tremendous. Her life demonstrated her love and kindness to all who had the good fortune to know her. I feel fortunate to have known her for such a long time. Lessons from your Mother will guide you to find that very special peaceful place in your heart to hold on to her soul. Sorrow fades but beautiful memories live on. Much love, Mary and Dick

Dear Betty & Sandra I am so sorry for your loss. I have many very fond memories of your Mom, my Aunt. She lived life with such grace and kindness towards others, while at the same time with a quick wit and a twinkle in her eye. I especially appreciate her words of wisdom in our most recent chats. I will always have a special place in my heart for Aunt Mary.

~ Marsha McIntyre Davidson

I knew Mary through the Kiwanis Seniors Centre where I am a staff member. Every Friday morning Mary, Lorraine and Eva would arrive together. It was very rare to not see them together. I affectionately called them my three Musketeers. We had many great conversations. It was always a pleasure to spend a few minutes with her. Friday lunches will not be the same without her smiling face. My deepest sympathy to the family on the loss of a wonderful lady.

I am so sad to hear of Mary's passing. I had the pleasure of getting to know Mary over the last 6 years, through our Lunch Bunch Program at Meals on Wheels London. She never missed an outing and was always so fun to chat with over lunch. Whenever I needed some input into places to go (or not to go), I would call her and get her opinion - she never let me down. She was always so put together and lovely and I will miss her. I speak for everyone here at Meals on Wheels London - we send our most sincere condolences to you and your family.

To Betty & Sandra and families, I was so sad to hear that Aunt Mary passed away. She was a classic gem. Her sense of humour, gentle kindness are just a couple of things that everyone felt when they were with her. When Covid-19 first started I called her to ask her if she needed anything. When I asked her if she had lots of toilet paper she just laughed and wondered what was wrong with people, buying all that toilet paper, she mentioned that they had never used a page from the Easton's catalogue before, so there wasn't anything to worry about. I have so many cherished memories that will live forever when I think of her
