Mary Joyce Young (nee Hayes)

“Merrie” passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017, at London’s Victoria Hospital, at the age of 86. Beloved aunt of Glenn and Lois Hayes, Diane Hayes, Janet Hunter, and John Barnes.  Lovingly remembered by great-nieces and great-nephew Heather, Anna and Jason, and many other great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Verna, and her brother, John.  Mary will also be fondly remembered by her many friends here and in Florida.  Mary was awarded a life membership in The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs by her peers.  She will also be remembered for her work with disadvantaged children in the Florida school systems and in London.  Mary was a tireless and selfless volunteer.  She was a dedicated member of the Metropolitan United Church’s Knit Wits, whose knitting raised funds for various missions.  She directed the church’s annual Christmas pageant for many years.  In her later years, Mary faced her many medical challenges with courage, determination, and optimism. Special thanks to CCAC, all the PSW’s, nurses, doctors, and friends who made it possible for Mary to stay in her apartment with her beloved cat, Chloe. At Mary’s request there will be no memorial service.  Private interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia.
