Mary ‘Irene’, RN (retired) MacMillan
January 5, 2018
With profound sadness, the family of Irene MacMillan announces her peaceful passing in London, Ontario on Friday, January 5th, 2018. Beloved wife of “Don” MacMillan. Loving mother of Eric MacMillan, Shari Ferguson, Alison Caldwell (Duncan) and Kirk MacMillan. Dearest grandmother of Julia and Alexi. Survived by her siblings: Evelyn (the late Gary), Bill (Faye), Ruth (Tom), Susan and Brian (Linda). Predeceased by siblings Gordon, Kenny, Betty, Carolyn and Keith. Irene graduated from Civic Hospital in 1972 and started her career there in the Cardiac Care Unit. She then worked the remainder of her career as an Emergency Room Nurse at Riverside Hospital. First and foremost, Irene loved her husband and family but also enjoyed gardening, volunteering, and winter sports including skating on the Rideau Canal. The family wishes to thank the staff at Willow Ridge at the McCormick Home in London for their care and compassion. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Irene are asked to consider the Ontario Nursing Association or the McCormick Care Foundation (Dementia Services).

Alison & Duncan and family, We are so sad to hear of your mother/mother-in-laws passing. We have seen, time and time again, the loving family that your parents built and fostered. We hope you can find strength in each other at this time. We send our most sincere sympathy to your father and siblings also. With love, Louise & Paul
Don, Alison, Shari, Eric and Kirk, our heart felt sympathies to all of you on the passing of your dear wife and Mom. I have so many fond memories of her welcoming me to your home on Kitchener and always making me feel like one of the family. Her Christmas "strata" recipe remains one of our favourites and I will always think of her each year I make it. Sending our love to you all. Julie, Kristin, Melissa and Ed.
I'm truly sorry for your family's loss. Although I was never lucky enough to have met your mother Shari, what you have described of her, she was a very special lady that will surely be missed. My condolences to everyone whom she touched in her life. Kimberly(Shari's friend)

Alison, Shari and family, We love you dearly and miss you over the miles. I am glad I got to spend some time with your mom in your past home and of course, at your wedding Alison, in her beautiful garden. I will never forget her smile. Your love and memories of your mom will last eternally. Your mom lived a wonderful life and her dedication to her career, husband and children is so very admirable. Manuel and I send our condolences. Embracing you today and always, Janna
When I read the name Irene MacMillan in yesterdays obituary section of the London Free Press, I thought...it can't be Mrs. MacMillan from Ottawa on Kitchener Ave. Then I read the names Don, Eric, Shari, Alison and Kirk and knew it to be the Mrs. MacMillan who inspired me to go into nursing school . I used to babysit you youngsters ( I think Kirk was about 4 ) when I used to walk down from Nottinghill to your home and your mom would be busy getting ready to go ...likely to some course or other for nursing. I'm so sorry to hear she has passed away and to know that she may have been at McCormick when I was with my nursing students at that home a couple of years ago. My condolences to all of you at this sad time . My memories of your family are good ones.
To Eric and the entire family. Please accept our warmest condolences, our thoughts and prayers are with you. From all your friends at CGIS
Dear Don & all the family, It was a shock to read of Irene's passing in the Citizen. As I read all of your names I thought of all of you individually. I have many fond memories of Irene and all of you and I did not realize you had left Ottawa. Irene was a wonderful church school teacher and compassionate nurse. I would love to hear from you if possible. With much love and sympathy, Doreen Saunders

You are one of the kindest family I know, your mom and dad are the roots and your mom's loss will be felt. Although I didn't know your mom well, I do know she was an amazing wife, mother and nurse I hope in these times you can reflect on her life and treasure the memories she has left you. Please know you are in our hearts today and always.
