Marvyn Albert Hall

February 17, 2025

Born in 1936 to Howard and Evelyn Wride Hall.  Marvyn leaves behind Barbara, his wife of 67 years, his sisters: Myrna (Larry) Dunsdon, Shirley (Ronald) Rice, and Sheila (Ross) Pollard, and his children: Richard (Lauren) Hall of Massachusetts, Brian (Oowan) Hall of Thailand and Joanne (Scott McCardle) Hall of Vancouver. Marvyn was also the proud grandfather of Ryland, Cameron, Zoe, Brooks and Brace.

Marvyn was happiest when he was among friends and family, with a four-legged sidekick in his lap, a beer in his hand, and a hockey game on the ice or the TV; on the golf course or poolside on a hot summer day; tucking into a feast (and every meal was a feast for Marvyn) or visiting his kids and grandkids around the globe.

Among many distinctive character traits, confidence was perhaps Marvyn’s greatest asset. He was exactly who and what he was, without inhibition or filter. But because his authenticity was paired with good humor and joie de vivre, he got away with legendary teasing and endless hijinks, had a wide circle of friends, was the life of every gathering, and enjoyed a long and successful business career, including his dream job of working for Cooper Sporting Goods, through which he befriended many hockey greats.

As his son Brian put it, “My father seemed to brighten almost every single room he entered. Whether it was a hockey dressing room, the family living room, a social event, or any other venue, the sparkling glint of his blue eyes and radiant grin as he approached always seemed to put people at ease. He looked right at you when listening to you speak, and even if his reply was not always the most eloquent, the timing of his response was generally impeccable and the care with which it was delivered was pure.”

Known for “Marvysh,” the language of nicknames and unique idioms that peppered his speech, Marv was a true character: lovable, inimitable and memorable. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

I have just read about Marvin’s death and want to offer my condolences, Marvin was the best man when Arthur and I were married in 1956, and Art was an usher when Marvin and you were married. As so often happens we lost touch over the years especially after Art died in 1988, I do offer my best wishes to you. Pat Sargent,

Aunt Barb, Rich, Brian and Joanne - Janet and I are in Spain and just found out tonight about Marv’s passing. My deepest condolences to you all. Uncle Marv will certainly be remembered as one of the most unique souls to ever walk this earth! Nothing half measured, no filter, but always an undercurrent of compassion and caring. We will miss him. Hugs to all, Peter and Janet

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to you Barb, and your wonderful family. Marv quickly became a friend of our family when my parents moved here in 2003. I got to know him more and more with every visit here to see my family, as he and Dad had become fast friends. He did light up their house when he stopped by with his quick humour and one of a kind personality. He will be missed but never out of a conversation!

Marvy - Dianne and I met you and Barb in 2004 at our Villa party - along with our Jack Nash Terrace Villa friends and neighbours. We then got to know each other on the golf course and over the years became great friends. We played many games together with Beach Boy Group and your Looney Tooney boys. Your sense of humour always kept us entertained. You loved to play golf, never took it too serious, but could still play good golf with that slapshot swing, and the only guy I knew that could gauge the speed and direction of a putt from the cart signs that were placed short of the green. The clubhouse staff, each member, had a Marv Hall unique nickname, and they loved it when you would kiddingly tease and mess with them. You were a very caring person, I always remember you would tell me you were going to visit Bill Tarvit, which was very frequent, who was your very dear friend. We also reminisced about our mutual friend Don Barclay, who I knew from Belleville and you knew from Brampton. You remember the guy that had many years ago played with Belleville McFarlands that you sightly bragged about scoring many goals on, during your Sunday morning pickup games. Marvy I know we did not see much of each other these past few years, but I will always remember our outings to Knights, and Lightning games, plus our many many phone chats, and get togethers to discuss events of the day, or just hang out! Enjoy your beautiful transition to your heavenly location Marvy, and ask them to please move those cart signs closer to the green :>) Jack and Dianne Elliott

Barb and Family, sorry to learn of Marv's passing and we extend our condolences. While a most difficult time for all, take comfort from the good times shared with Marv and as Family. We remember Marv as a fun gentleman and friend here at RiverBend.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Hall. I will carry many fond memories in my heart as he often made me laugh during our many chats when I worked at RiverBend. Still to this day whenever I sign my initials "JBJ" I think of him as we would often holler that through the clubhouse to get my attention! He will be greatly missed by many!!!

Sorry for your loss. By what I read it seemed like he was always a cheery, going concern. He will always be missed by his family and friends , but he will not be forgotten.
