Marka “Maria” Stajfer

Our precious Mom, Marka ‘Maria’ Stajfer, peacefully departed this life, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at 4:35 p.m. in London, Ontario at University Hospital, two days prior to her 87th birthday. Born on March 16, 1937, in Celarevo, Serbia, Yugoslavia. She married Sam Stajfer Sr. in 1956; they were married for 54 years until his passing in 2010.

Marka immigrated with Dad to Canada in the early 1960s, with two suitcases, to start a life together in London, Ontario.

Her passing leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her. A loving Mom, she leaves behind her son, Sam (Kim) and her daughter, Mary (Joseph). Adored by her grandchildren: Dana (Ray), Daniel (Jessi), Brittany (Spencer), Adam (Marina), Leah (Dustin), Andrew (Melissa), and by her great-grandchildren: Makayla, Caleb, Liam, and Charlotte. Missed by her cousin, John Macko (Lilian); nephew, Walter Kacera (Lorenna); and niece, Ann Murray (Terry), among other extended family members.

Marka’s life centered around her family, faith, and God. She loved all who crossed her path, made them welcome in her home and made sure there was room for everyone around the kitchen table. She was involved in her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives by never missing a special birthday celebration or life’s important events. Marka loved her dogs because they brought her so much joy, comfort, and support.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, where a funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
