Marinus “Mies” (Maurice) Van de Ven

August 25, 2020

Passed peacefully, with family by his side on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Adriana “Jane” (née Ketelaars). Cherished father of Tony (Cheryl), Mike (Linda), Jerry, and Maureen. Adored Opa of Kate, Jeremy, Joshua, Shari, Devin; and great-Opa of Rachel and Michael. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother Frans in the Netherlands; sisters-in-law Ann, Martha, Riek, and Mien; and brother-in-law Henk. He is predeceased by his parents, Antonius and Gertruda; brothers, John and Arnold, of Ontario, Wim (Riek) Jo, Tien, and his sister, Piëta, of the Netherlands. Born in the town of Gemert in the Netherlands. Marinus served two years in the Dutch Army in Jakarta, Indonesia. Upon returning, he attended trade school to become a plasterer – a craft he excelled at with his own business for over 30 years. He married Adriana in 1956 and shortly after, they set out to the open seas for a new life in Canada. Next May would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. Marinus was a beautiful soul that was liked by everyone. He will always be remembered for his optimistic personality and the kindness in his heart. Tony, Mike, Jerry and Maureen, The VanWiechen family was saddened to hear of the passing of your father, Mies. Yesterday, myself (Peter) and John were visiting at our brother Tony's home in Burlington with our wives. We discussed how close our families were when we were very young boys. We have so many fond memories of the hospitality received from your parents on our visits. Your father always displayed a welcoming spirit and showed interest in whatever it was that we were into at the time. I do remember the many visits they made to our home as well, with good times shared around the card table with our Mom and Dad, while we played various games ourselves. Please know that your father is in our thoughts and prayers. Please pass on our condolences to the rest of your family and especially for your mother. God bless all of you, take care, Peter and Kim VanWiechen

Oom Mies was the most welcoming, wonderful positive soul you could ever meet. Never too busy for a talk. always willing to share a good joke, his laugh loud and genuine! We couldn't wait for him and Tante Sjaan and the family to come visit and even when we were all older we still awaited their visits with anticipation. Oom Mies was my godfather as he was of apparently quite a few kids but I always felt special and loved. I will always hold my special memories in my heart and hold a special place for the uncle we all adored. He will be missed forever. My deepest expression of sympathies to my cousins and spouses, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and to his beloved wife Tante Sjaan. Love you

I know your heart will be breaking right now but in time you will remember all the things that made him so dear to you and find strength in that. Our hearts are with you at this painful time. Condolences also to your entire family.

We will miss seeing him at the coffee klatch every week. He has always shown kindness and calmness to all. His smile was infectious. Although he lived a long life it is never really enough. May he rest in peace and may your family find solace in time. God bless.
