Marilyn Richards (née Edgar)

October 26, 2017

On Thursday, October 26th, 2017, after a courageous battle against cancer, surrounded by love, singing and family at Parkwood Institute, Marilyn slipped into the arms of her Saviour.  Although she will be greatly missed, we rejoice in knowing we will see her again.  Known for her hugs, big smile and even bigger heart, she always had a smile and encouraging word for everyone she met.  Her kindness, generosity and faith impacted all those around her.  Marilyn was passionate about helping people, which was evident in her extensive nursing career and as a Pastor’s wife.  She was incredibly loving and dedicated – each person and patient was more like family to her.  Loved madly by her husband, Rev. Douglas Richards.  Cherished mother of Pastor Dan (Amy), Becky Mathieu (Mike), Kim Ykema (Jeremy) and Tim (Tara).  Adoring grandma to Caleb, Jonathan and Shelby.  Deeply missed by her siblings, Margaret Gregory (Jim), David (Lynda), Bob (Sharon), Elizabeth Bell and sister-in-love, Monica Edgar.  Fondly remembered by the entire Richards family; all her nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends and her Gateway Church family.  Marilyn is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Sydney and Jean Edgar; sister, Heather Ingram (Michael); brother, Ken; brother-in-law, Fred Bell and niece, Kristen Edgar.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. The funeral service will be conducted at GATEWAY CHURCH, 890 Sarnia Road, London on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Private inurnment at Woodland Cemetery.  Special thanks to the amazing staff at Parkwood Institute, the oncology team and all the medical staff at Victoria and Strathroy hospitals.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Marilyn are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or Cystic Fibrosis Canada. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and our dear friend, Marilyn. She will forever be missed but fondly remembered. We were all so privileged and blessed by having her in our lives. She always had a smile, hug, prayer and a kind word for those she encountered. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May you be strengthened by the outpouring of love from others... May you be overwhelmed with the peace of our Lord and Saviour... May you be encouraged with the hope of Life Eternal... Keep the memories of all the great times you had with her close to your heart. There is no doubt that she loved you all very very much. We heard that from her very often. Until we meet again at the feet of Jesus, Marilyn! With lots of love...

My deepest condolences and fervent prayers for everyone affected. No more cancer, no arthritis, no more pain. She's walking the golden streets of Heaven. I'm so glad Neil & I got to spend time with Marilyn and that we could sing and pray with her at the hospital. It was a beautiful and peaceful time. When I was at the worst of my sickness, Marilyn always went out of her way to pray with me, incredibly compassionate, so kind, so gentle, so unconditionally loving. What a gift to have been blessed with knowing you Marilyn. Can't wait to see you in Heaven. Love you forever. Xo 💖💋➕

I suppose that Hyacinths, Daffodils, Lily of the valley and Wisteria cannot compare to the SWEET FRAGRANCE that Marilyn poured forth from her amazing life towards her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and all people. Her life showered Joy, Peace and Love to us and all she met. She will be missed. 2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ , in them that are saved, and in them that perish.

~ John and Teresa (Good) Webster
