Margaret Virtue (née Dallyn)

It is with great sadness, but also with deep gratitude for a life well-lived, that the family of Margaret Virtue announces her peaceful passing at the age of 93, at the McCormick Home in London, Ontario on July 6th, 2017, with all her seven children by her side. Margaret was predeceased by loving husband Ross (1982); cherished parents Pearl and Reginald Dallyn; sister Betty and brother Jim. She is survived by her beloved sister Ruth Beatty (Roy), of Toronto and her seven children: Mary Ann Bean (Michael), Jane Kennedy (Michael), Nancy Bent (Gary), Jim Virtue (Denise), Ellen Robson, Doug Virtue and Liz Agro (Joe). Mom will be deeply missed by her 18 grandchildren: Michael Bean (Carolyn), David Bean (Liz), Christopher Bean (Anh Minh), Marcia La Roue (Pat), Michael Kennedy (Laura), Brooke Sharrard (Matt), Andrea Bent (Jason), Stephen Bent (Angela), Casey Virtue (Megan), Kevin Virtue (Michele), Jordan Virtue and Tessa Virtue, Megan Sheedy (Dave), Tyler Robson, Robyn Carl (Adam), Jesse, Nicole and Chris Agro; and by her great grandchildren: Jordan, Tim, Hayley, Jennifer, Courtney, Matthew, Emily, William, Sam, Dallyn, Charlie, Sam, Maddie, Evie, Abbie, Cassidy, Tanner, Poppy and Jacob. Fondly remembered by Warren Wilkins, Kathryn Virtue, Chris Robson, Cathy Hartin, and Geoff Bourne. Marg grew up in Brockville where she met her future husband, Ross, while he was stationed at the Officers Training Centre in 1942. They were married on January 31st, 1943, before Ross headed overseas to join the conflict. Upon his return, Marg and Ross made their home in numerous Canadian cities, while they raised their always growing family, finally settling in London in 1963. At the age of 46, after her last child started school, Marg enrolled in Teachers’ College and taught kindergarten for 19 years with the Thames Valley Board of Education. Marg took night school and summer school courses and graduated with a BA from UWO at the age of 60. She was the epitome of all things good and true. She saw the bright side of every situation and believed mistakes were wonderful learning opportunities. Despite the toll of Alzheimer’s disease, Marg smiled bravely till the end. With her grace, humour, optimism and loving nature, Marg touched all who knew her. A special thank you to Adrienne for her kindness and support over the past few years. Heartfelt thanks to the devoted and compassionate staff at the McCormick Home. Visitors will be received at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. In Margaret’s memory, donations to the McCormick Care Foundation (2022 Kains Road, London, Ontario N6K 0A8) would be appreciated.

Dear Jim and siblings, Your mom was obviously a very special lady. I hope that you have a beautiful day tomorrow remembering her and her spirit. She obviously loved being busy, and she inspired many it seems. I will be thinking of you from Vancouver.
Mrs. Virtue was my kindergarten teacher at Lady Beck Public School. To this day, my family and I often speak fondly of her. She was a wonderfully warm and gentle soul and had a way of making every student feel special. Even at the age of five, she probably made me believe in myself more than any other teacher since. She will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

She was my kindergarten teacher & I have never forgotten her, what a wonderful person. My condolences to her family. Sounds like she lived a very full life.
My condolences to Marg's family at this time. I taught with Marg at Victoria PS. She was a lovely lady with a sunny, positive demeanour and was welcoming to everyone. I remember her telling us in the staff room about those wonderful prime rib family dinners that she enjoyed so much!
Mrs. Virtue was my Kindergarten teacher...and the dearest teacher I'd ever had. She used to sing me the wartime classic "K-K-K-Katie". She was a genuine soul who provided a warm, human, and real education. I remember her telling me about how she had lost her brother in the War. I'm thankful she could share these stories with us; they helped make us who we are today. I'm forever grateful to have had Mrs. Virtue as my teacher - long live her memory!
Marg accomplished so much in her life time - she was truly amazing, but more than anything, she was an exceptional mom to all of her seven children - she was so loved and such an inspiration. I first met Marg in 1974 shortly after I met Jane (my friend for life!) - so warm and gracious and so interested in my life - I felt very much at home. I thought the world of her.
I loved working with you mother...I was her teaching assistant in 1981-82. She was a huge influence on me (we graduated together.) I wanted to be adopted by her. She was such a warm, positive person. Her smile lit up the room. I'll never forget her "tushion/piddow" story. All my love, Mary

Ms Virtue was my very first teacher in kindergarten at Victoria P.S. She remained one of my favourite teachers throughout my entire educational career. She was gentle, kind and so very supportive. I am so grateful to have had Marg Virtue for that short period of time in my life. Love and condolences to her family and loved ones.
I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to care for Margaret during her stay at McCormick. She was such a calm and beautiful woman with a smile that lit up the room. Her legacy lives on in her beautiful kind and caring daughters and family . You are a truly an amazing group. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless you all. Marg was the most amazing kindergarten teacher to our daughter and son while she was at Victoria P.S. We all loved and respected her so much. I often told her 'patience is a Marg Virtue' She was always calm and smiling. She talked about her 7 kids and how proud she was of all of you. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
I remember your Mom from teaching. She was such a gentle, joyous soul. She loved teaching and I'm certain she touched many young lives. My sincere sympathy.

Martha Pozeg Death leaves a heartache noone can heal. Love leaves a memory noone can steal. My sister Rita and I were both working at McCormick home when we both met Margaret for the first time. She left a lasting impression on both of us through her kindness and neverending smile. What a wonderful human being! Our sincere sympathies to the whole family.
