Margaret Ina Stirling Edgar (née Duncan)

Peacefully at University Hospital, London, on Friday, November 25th, 2016. Born in Bracebridge on January 18th, 1935 to the late Alexander Hume Duncan and Margaret McKay Stirling. Mourned by her husband, Hugh of 56 years; sons, Cameron (Patricia) and Duncan (Veronica), all of London; and daughter Heather Winmill (Paul) of Burlington. Dear Nana of Ian, Claire, Adam, Blaine, Daniel and William. Survived by her brother, James Reid (Susan) and their children Katy and Alexandra, all of Mississauga. Predeceased by her sister Sandra. Margaret graduated from Sudbury High School in 1953. She then entered nursing at Toronto General Hospital, graduating in 1956. She met and married her husband, Hugh, in Montreal in 1960. In 1963, they returned to London where they have resided for the past 53 years. Margaret enjoyed many volunteer activities, one of them being a member of the May Court Club of London. Other volunteer activities were enjoyed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, and the Senior Friendship Centre, Sarasota, Florida. As well, she enjoyed tutoring children with reading difficulties at Pine Shore Elementary School and for many years in the after school program at Church of the Palms Presbyterian Church in Sarasota. She and her sister, Sandra, were accomplished pair figure skaters in Northern Ontario, winning several awards in the late ‘40s and early ‘50s. She learned to curl and ski in her adult years in London. Her grandchildren were her special passion. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. In memory of Margaret, donations may be made to the Children’s Health Foundation (London) or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Hugh, Cameron and families, I was so saddened to hear of Marg's passing. Cameron was Brian's class mate and Heather was Bebe's class mate. They all had fun together attending Oak Park school. I think Marg and I took the children to their swimming lessons at an Oakridge pool. Wonderful memories I hope you will revisit. Hugh, I was saddened to hear of Marg's passing from my parents on Saturday. I have fond memories of Marg, especially in Siesta Key. Marg always had a warm and friendly smile I hope that the many wonderful memories you have, help you through the weeks ahead. Please know that you, Cameron, Duncan and Heather are in my thoughts and prayers.
