Lorne Benjamin ‘Ben’ Hillier

Of London, Ontario, at age 88. Originally from Keppel Township, Grey County, Ontario. Also residency in Point Edward, Forest and London, Ontario, passed away peacefully after a long illness with Alzheimer’s and a short illness of COVID-19. He passed at Henley Place in London after a day of serenity with his son and daughter-in-law on Friday, February 4, 2022. Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Cornell (2012). Loved father of Lorne E. Hillier, daughter-in-law Gerarda (Smith) and his predeceased son Martin (2008). Loved by his Hillier granddaughters Olivia Kenyon (Spencer) (St. John’s, NL), Brittany (Jake) and Courtney, and by grandsons Matthew (Amanda) and Brendan Hillier, all of London, ON. Predeceased by his parents Lorne B. Hillier (1992) and Evaleen (Kalbfleisch) (2005), father-in-law Sandy Cornell (1972) and mother-in-law Rhea (Thoman) (1974) all of Point Edward, ON. Also predeceased by brother-in-law Hartley Cornell (1997) of Sarnia, sister-in-law Maxine Renchko (1986) (John) (1981) of Mount Pearl, NL, and sister-in-law Patricia Mandley (2021). Survived by brother-in-law Harold Mandley (Dunnville), sister-in-law Margaret Cornell (Sarnia), brother-in-law Vince Cornell (Cheryl Ann) (Sarnia). Graduating from the Radio College of Canada in Toronto in 1956, Ben was proud to be a certified engineering technician in the electronics and electrical field. Ben worked for Haliburton Company in Sarnia, as a troubleshooter of radioactivity geological surveying equipment. Later he moved with his young family to London to be a technical troubleshooter for Northern Telecom for many years. In retirement, Ben and Eleanor loved to visit Legions, camp at the trailer at Spring Lake and take day trips with their best pals Hartley and Margie Cornell. Ben was an only child which made him love his growing family with Eleanor even more. He enjoyed his many nieces and nephews and especially his grandchildren. Ben was the epitome of a gentleman, a very kind and generous soul who loved people and to chat, and he was loved by many. The Hillier family wishes to thank the caring PSWs and nurses who kindly cared for Ben at Richmond Woods Retirement Village and especially at Henley Place Senior Living Community. Memorial service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Registration is required to attend the service. A livestream of the service will be available for those wishing to view the service remotely. Inurnment at Lakeview Cemetery – Sarnia at 1:00 p.m.

We are very sad to hear of Uncle Ben's passing. So many fond memories - Hillier's cottage at the lake, hours spent at the trailer and their garden in Forest. He was such a kind, generous man and we miss him dearly. Our deepest condolences to you Lorne, Gerarda and family.

Lorne, Girarda and family, we are saddened to learn of Uncle Bens passing. He was such a sweet gentle soul. I had so many interesting conversations with him over the years, not to mention all of the fun we all had when we got together. I know he is up there with Dad and Aunt Eleanor and Aunt Pat and they are up to all kinds of shenanigans. Cherish your memories. You have another angel near you. RIP Uncle Ben.
Lorne, Gerarda and family Our condolences on the passing of your father, father in law and grandfather. I first met Ben at Coles book store Westmount Mall when Eleanor worked there when I was manager. We enjoyed many social times together, and are fondly remembered.
We are so very saddened for Uncle Ben’s passing. Our memories of his gentle and sincere nature will always be with us. We like to believe that he has joined that elite group of spirits we all love and miss. They watch over us and there is hope we will all meet again. Thinking of you Lorne, Gerarda and family.
