March 9, 1941 ~ March 21, 2019
Suddenly at the Village of Glendale Crossing, on Thursday, March 21, 2019, Karen Leigh Smith, a long-time resident of London, Ilderton and Inverhuron Beach passed away in her 79th year. She was predeceased by her parents A.E. “Pete” Smith (1993) and Dorothy (Stott) Smith (2006). Karen will be remembered as a loving sister and aunt by her brother Peter Gerald Smith (Judy); their children David Andrew Smith, Jennifer Lynn Smith; and their children. Fondly remembered by many cousins; by Lily and Grant Hopcroft; and by their daughters Lara, Lisa and Christina. Karen was a teacher and librarian for many years with the London Board of Education. She was always an active volunteer during her life, was past president of the Ontario and Canadian Library Association, a retired board member of the City of London Public Library Board, and a former board member of the Middlesex-London District Health Unit. She always tried to help others in whatever way she could – a helping hand, a thoughtful word, a loving word. We will miss her unfailing support and unconditional love in our lives, but the values she instilled in us will be our guideposts as we continue life’s journey. Rest in peace, Karen; we will carry on for you. A funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Karen are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of their choice.

Karen and I were friends back in public school days. I do not know if she went to Lady Beck Public School or whether I knew her from her father's grocers store. Then we lost track of each other until we met when she was the Librarian at Sir Adam Beck Secondary School, where my children attended. Unfortunately, we said we would get together and catch up on our lives and we did not. I have been thinking about her recently and thought I should try to find her...and I did but not in the way I expected. Condolences to her family and good friends.
I want to offer my condolences to Karen's family. May your loving memories of her be of comfort to you during this sad time. Also, pray to God for comfort. He will help because God cares for you. 1Peter 5:6,7
