Julie Ann Shadd (née Strangway)

March 9, 2025

In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 9, 2025, Julie Ann Shadd (née Strangway) of London, Ontario went to be with Jesus, her precious Lord and Saviour.

Treasured wife of the late David.  Mother of the late Joshua (Averil), the late Samuel, Daniel (Hannah), Hannah (Darren), Deborah, Leah, and Philip (Jessica).  Grandmother of Julie and Samuel; Emerson, Noah, and Grace; Luke, Aaron, and Sarah; Bethany, Andrew, Ryan, and Lydia.  Dearly loved daughter of the late Arley and Marie Strangway.  Cherished sister of Bonnie and the late Patsy.  A sister-in-law and aunt to many.

Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, Julie moved to London as a young woman and gave her whole self to loving her husband, children, and anyone else God brought into her life.  Never wanting to be late to church for fear of missing the singing, we rejoice with her now as she lifts her voice of everlasting praise in Heaven.  ‘My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.’

At Julie’s request, she will be laid to rest at a private family interment.  Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Julie are asked to consider giving to Compassion Canada.

Dear Friends. I was not aware of your Mom having become ill so it was a shock to learn that she had gone to be with the Lord. May you know the comfort of the Lord as you adjust to her being absent. Certainly, she was a most kind and gentle lady, a woman of faith and commitment. You, and all of us, will be blessed by her memory.

Dear Shadd Family, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Julie was an such quiet, tender and humble servant of God. As far back as we can remember, both your mom and dad were wonderful models of how to serve God and reflect Jesus to others in everyday living. She raised an amazing family and, as young adults, we looked up to her in how to parent or own children. Heaven rejoices.

Having Julie and her family as neighbors for years was a great joy. She was always there to help in any way. As the years passed, she became a wonderful ‘tea’ visitor for my mom. Her kindness and concern for mom was a true gift from her heart and faith. She was a blessing in our lives and all who knew her. In thoughtfulness, Darla(Maltby) and Mike White

Dear Avril and family, I’m sorry for your loss of a mom and grandma. May God provide strength and comfort for the days to come.

We are so sorry for your loss. Julie was very special to me back in the days of our children's ministry at West Park. I know we lost touch after we left but I never forgot her gentle spirit week after week watching and learning how to minister to children in Sunday school. She was my inspiration to carry on ministering to children years later.

So many wonderful memories of a magnificent woman. Her faith became my own through her mothering and fostering. Her encouragement and joy was present at every meeting. In raising my own family, I was eager to share with her every accomplishment and victory, even the challenges as I knew her response would be filled with love, curiosity and wisdom. She added so much to our conversations with pointed questions that presented her care with love and consideration. There was not one of those conversations though, from the day I moved away from London, that did not include a bold inquiry as to when I might move back. I would have liked to have been her neighbour forever. For the life she spent cradling babies in the nursery, raising her own with such great intent and attention, and the faith that she poured into and through all those in her care, I will always remember her, and always be grateful. To 'my' Shadd family, I wish I was there, to share in your loss and bear the burden of missing her with you. Even more, that I could join in sharing the many memories of her with you all, and finally celebrate her life and her present joy.

We were both sad to hear of the passing of this beautiful lady who was such a good and beloved friend to so many. she always had something positive and encouraging to say to those who knew her. She will be missed by her many friends in Christ. At the same time we rejoice that she will be reunited with her David and her Lord and Savior, Jesus. He is the resurrection and the life. We will see you again soon, Julie.
