John “Stewart” Buchanan

John “Stewart” Buchanan passed away peacefully in his 81st year on January 25, 2025, at home with his beloved wife of 47 years, Christine, by his side.

Loving and proud father of Shawna Van Esch (Corum), Julia Howard (Brendan) and his grandchildren whom he adored: Emerson, Clark, Grant, Penelope and Fraser.

Predeceased by his parents, William and Marjorie Buchanan and his sister Ann Lyons. Brother to Roy Buchanan (Marianne) and Joyce Coombs (Rick) and brother-in-law to Steven Lyons, Jane Brown, Van Tuckey, Mark Tuckey, Matthew Tuckey and their spouses. He will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, Elsie Tuckey Hermann, and missed by his many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as treasured friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Stewart grew up on a farm near Florence, Ontario and moved to London in the 1960s, where he later met Christine. After pursuing a variety of interests and jobs, including art, drag racing cars, building silos and swimming pools, and even being a cowboy for a summer, he found his way to commercial real estate, where he spent the majority of his career.

Stewart loved good music, food and wine, and especially loved sharing them with his family and friends. He was generous to those he loved and strangers alike – there was always room at the table for one more person and he always saved the last bite for someone else. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and would enthusiastically share about them to anyone he met.

He was always active and enjoyed working outside, windsurfing, and spent many hours at the gym staying in shape. We will look back on many fond memories of him; travelling, spending time at the cottage, or going for a Sunday drive.

The family wishes to thank the supportive and caring healthcare team that allowed him to stay in his home.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place January 29, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and January 30, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel,  709 Wonderland Road North, London.  A Memorial Service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.  A livestream is available for those unable to attend.
