John Stevens

Peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024, after a lengthy illness, John Stevens passed away at LHSC – Victoria Campus in London, Ontario in his 77th year.  Predeceased by his loving wife and best friend Bonnie, cherished father of Todd Stevens (Natacha) of Hamilton, and Danielle Lanoue (Jamie) of London.  Dear grandfather of Nicole, Jennica and Matthew Lanoue and Abi, Cole, and Alyssa Stevens.  John was also survived by his brother-in-law Alex Calma and his aunt Jean Stevens.

John grew up in Preston, Ontario, where he met the love of his life, Bonnie, at Preston High School.  John graduated from Waterloo University with a degree in English and was set to pursue a career as an English teacher, when a sudden calling to a profession in sales pulled him away.  John spent several years working in the dairy business for Sealtest and Silverwood Dairies until entrepreneurial spirit drove he and Bonnie to open a bakery.  Over a twenty-year span, they provided countless first-time job opportunities to students at local high schools and family friends.  John provided mentorship to many of those who worked at the bakery over the years and still holds a special place in the hearts of those individuals today.  John returned to his sales roots, finishing his career with Mother Parkers Coffee & Tea, with a company who, he felt, treated him as well as a company could.  He made many strong relationships in the foodservice industry and thoroughly enjoyed the twilight of his career with those he worked with.  He had a great love of sports, having played baseball and basketball in youth sports.  He cherished his many long-term friendships he had until his last breath, some of which stretch back to his childhood days with the Preston Spartans baseball team.  He was also a devout, albeit frustrated Leafs fan.

Most important to John were the many cherished moments over the years spent surrounded by family and close friends.  He will be eternally missed by all those who loved and respected him so deeply.

Friends and family are welcome for visitation at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  A memorial service will be conducted in the funeral chapel on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.  A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person.
