John Sandor
October 10, 2021
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife and children at Highview Residences, on Sunday, October 10, 2021. Beloved husband of Diane Sandor for 57 years. Loving father of John Jr. (deceased 1989), Janice (George) and David (Beth). Proud grandfather of Naomi (Adam), Corby, Shauna-Lynn (Alex), Gabrielle (Luke), Sarah, Joshua and Sephora; great-grandfather of Mikaela.
John was born in Budapest, Hungary on October 20, 1937 and emigrated to Canada in December 1956. He loved being a real estate broker, for over 40 years, with the London and St. Thomas Real Estate Board. John was a member of several committees, some of which he chaired, and he served on the Board of Directors for many years.
John was an avid soccer enthusiast. He was not only a player but a coach and a referee. He was a proud member of the Italia Marconi soccer team during their heyday in the 1960’s when they won many local trophies and the prestigious Ontario Cup. He also played for Hungarian soccer teams, as well as teams in Tillsonburg and Woodstock.
Over the years, John maintained ties with the London Hungarian Canadian community by sponsoring local soccer teams, hosting European musicians when they performed in London and “solving the problems of the world” with “the regulars” over coffee at Cherryhill Mall.
Family members will fondly remember afternoons at Ipperwash Beach, family birthdays/BBQs, real estate Christmas parties and March Breaks at Orange Lake. John attended numerous sporting/music events to watch his grandchildren and he enjoyed hosting them for overnight visits and Christmas Day activities.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the staff at Highview Residences for the loving care and attention they provided for John. The family would also like to thank Dr. Borrie for his tireless commitment to providing the best medical care during John’s illness.
