John Manuel Da Ponte

Unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the age of 51. First born son of Urbano and Teresa Da Ponte. Beloved brother of Urban, Nevin (Amber) and Andie (Emily) and the funny, generous and silly uncle of Ethan, Olivia, Oliver, Willa and Kaiden. Predeceased by his little “pumpkin head” Maddisyn Baker-DaPonte, his loving grandparents/vavos, as well “the best mom ever” Teresa.

Those who knew John will remember him as an avid fan of the 49ers and the Maple Leafs. He looked forward to every game, and was a fan win or lose. His favorite pastime was playing cards with friends and family while telling stories. Not one to ever leave out even the smallest detail, John enjoyed injecting humour into every story he told. He was also a wordsmith of sorts, leaving his family and friends with an expanded vocabulary including “bajeet”, “ididididi”, “fooshkiss” and many others.

Although he lived a relatively simple life, he was always there to support his family. In particular, John was there for his mother whom he accompanied to an untold number of medical visits during her courageous battle with cancer. After her passing he would visit the mausoleum almost daily and missed her immensely. More recently he had moved back in with his dad and was keeping him laughing and well fed before his sudden departure from this world. He is surely back with his loving mother telling her stories again, while holding his little girl.

Memorial service to be conducted on Sunday, May 1, 2022 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London with visitation taking place one hour prior.

Those wishing to make a donation in honour of John are asked to consider the Children’s Hospital at the London Health Sciences Centre which took such loving care of Maddy during her short time on earth.
