John “Jack/Jake” Rehder

May 11, 2023

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto, surrounded by family.  He was the beloved and loving husband to Barbara Rehder for 58 years; a wonderful father to Michael Rehder (Michelle) and Jacqueline Allen (Robert), both of Toronto; and the proud grandfather of Avery Rehder, Logan Rehder and Haley Allen.  Jack is also survived by his sisters Marilyn Carbonneau of Montreal and Deborah Rehder of Abbotsford, B.C.

Jack retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia after 40 years of service and spent 29 years of happy retirement wintering in Fort Myers, Florida—cultivating a large network of lifelong friends as he went.  He was committed to the development of Barrhaven United Church in Ottawa as a co-founding member, and treasured the friendships he made during that period of his life.  He was an avid tennis player and loved hitting the courts anywhere he lived, especially on teams in Jamaica Bay, Florida and at the Western University courts in London, Ontario.  A Life Master of Bridge with the American Contract Bridge League, he played for 60+ years and was a sought-out teacher of the game.  He cherished his weekly poker games at Southwest One and the camaraderie he shared with his poker pals.  He loved all kinds of board games, especially when played with his grandchildren.  He looked forward each June to the annual Arrand family picnic and would have enjoyed to help celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. He loved his family and friends and made consistent efforts to remain connected.  He was a man of few words but much kindness. Jack was a dear man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Jack’s life will take place on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside United Church, 695 Riverside Drive, London, Ontario, with visitation commencing at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
