John Herbert Beatty

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of John Herbert Beatty on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in his 92^nd year.  Cherished husband to the late Betty Beatty (2020).  Loving father to Joan Shipley (Wayne) and Mark Beatty. Dear Poppa to Dana Shipley (Zach) and Alex Shipley.  Dear brother to the late Doris Smith (Jim).  Loved brother-in-law of Vera Gooderham (late Murray) and Marian Sinclair O’Connor (Jim).   Predeceased by his parents Russell and Helen Beatty and brothers-in law, Jim and Alan Sinclair.  John will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, longtime friends and neighbours.

John had a long and fulfilling career with the Bank of Montreal starting as a clerk and becoming Manager of Properties and Construction for Southwestern Ontario.  During his forty plus years with the Bank of Montreal, he resided in Toronto, Montreal, Mississauga, Oakville and finally London, Ontario.  The family has many fond memories of the friendships John and Betty made in all these cities.

John and Betty enjoyed Caribbean cruises and trips to Panama City Beach Florida to escape winter, but John was always willing to lend a hand in the neighbourhood, snowblowing multiple driveways on his street anytime it snowed.  John was always meticulous in any task he undertook.  He was a “get it done, and do it now” kind of a guy. John’s later years were spent gardening, taking care of his home, completing daily crossword puzzles and spending time with his cats.  He enjoyed watching sports; hockey, football or the Toronto Blue Jays were often on the TV.  Family celebrations were regularly held at Tony Roma’s in London as John always enjoyed a good meal out.  John loved telling stories and often shared stories of his past with his family.  He would never give up the opportunity to chat with an old or new friend.  His outgoing personality will be greatly missed by many.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Price and caregivers at LHSC, Fox Hollow Retirement Residence, The Manor Village and Chartwell London for the care and compassion shown to John over the past year.  They would also like to thank Extended Families for supporting John in his final weeks.

Friends and family will be received at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m.  Reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of John are asked to consider Community Living London or Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners  – Middlesex Office.
