Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 24th, 2014 in his 93rd year. Cherished husband of Phyllis for 66 years. Loving father of John (Jo-Ann) of Exeter, Gayle Detenbeck (Barry) of Bayfield, Marilyn Geen (Douglas) of Belleville, Barbara Dietrich (Ben) of Exeter, and Paul (Nicole) of London. Proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Jim Hayman (Joan) of Victoria, B.C. Predeceased by his sisters Mary Archer (Bill) and Ruth Hayman. John was devoted to his family and believed in the importance of education, as well as highschool and community sports. To my Aunt Phyl and dearest cousins (Johnny, Gayle, Marnie, Barb & Paul) and families, Uncle John was a GREAT Uncle - the Best of the Best! He was a real family man and the whole Hayman family was great at including us for Christmas Eve services followed by the hanging of Christmas stockings. Fun times were had with our extended family outings to Wellington Park where we had family picnics, baseball games and more importantly summer time spent together as family. I also loved being so close by to Aunt Phyl and Uncle John when we had our boat in the Bayfield marina and I could pop over to visit them periodically throughout the summer. Our times together were cherished and created lasting and loving memories. Uncle John was always caring and inclusive. He was a great team builder whether it be with sports or with family. Uncle John always had a warm hug and smile for me throughout all of my life whenever he would see me. He would always take time to ask how I was and really listened. He cared about me just for who I was and I always respected Uncle John for his kind treatment of me. This helped form who I was with my work in caring for some of the disadvantaged, poor, marginalized and seeing each person as loving caring people with their personal value to society. Last month when my husband, Mother and I visited Uncle John and Aunt in London, it was my turn to listen and truly love each of them deeply. I loved Uncle John not for his riches, fame, power or intellect but for who he was as a caring, loving, family man whom I will respect and cherish forever. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I will be happy when I see you again as I know a part of Uncle John lives on through each of you and will continue through to the generations. God bless all of you. Love, Jan
