John Anthony Lord

May 9, 2023

Surrounded by his beloved family, John Anthony Lord passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

John was looking forward to reuniting with his darling Peggy, who passed in 2015, parents and brothers. Dad, Grandpa, Popsi, Uncle, Friend — John will be dearly missed by his children Toni, Christina (Henricus), Tommy (Mary) and Robina (Art); grandchildren Nicholas (Tania), Eilish (Gord), Rayne, Savion, Jurnee and Nathaniel; great-grands Tessa, Grady and Caleb; family in England, and friends around the world.

John and Peggy were married in 1953 in Georgetown, Guyana. A former Presbyterian minister, they and their small family “island-hopped” to various parishes, until landing in Jamaica, where they resided until 1979, when they moved to his mother’s homeland of England. In 1984, John and Peggy packed up their belongings again and headed to Ontario, the place they’d call home for the rest of their lives.

Always one to march to the beat of his own drum, John was a trailblazer in his career and a renaissance man, who among other things, was a boss chef, knew his way around a computer before most knew what one was, could debate you under the table on any given topic, and whose vast vocabulary meant no one could match him in a game of Scrabble.

A lifelong man of great faith, John was a member of the Baha’i Faith since 1972. His wisdom, love, beautiful singing and storytelling prowess won’t be forgotten by any fortunate enough to know him.

His family thanks Dr. Jonathon Horne and other medical practitioners for years of service, and the LHIN care team who cared for him in the past few months. A special thank you to his PSWs and the Chelsey Park staff for their kindness and support. We are also grateful to all our family, friends and colleagues for their compassion and prayers.

We will celebrate the life of John on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Chalmers Presbyterian Church, 342 Pond Mills Road, London, followed by visitation from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. John has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.
